Did anyone see the replay on NBC tonight of the pilot of Miami Vice ? I forgot Jimmy Smits was in it for the first five minutes. I forgot how Don Johnson and Ricardo Tubbs became partners. I forgot how good they were, how hot Don Johnson was -- and the incredible music. The show so totally captured the 80's -- and the cocaine cowboys. Here's Phil Collins with In the Air Tonight:
What would Miami Vice be without the official theme song by Glenn Frey,You Belong to the City . Or my all-time favorite, Smuggler's Blues.

Think Progress reports the New York Times has retracted its news article that misrepresented comments by Hillary Clinton. Good work by the liberal blogosphere that reported the falsehoods.
This is a victory for the progressive blogosphere, particularly Atrios, who first discovered the error, and Media Matters, which kept the story going. Some questions to consider:
Why did it take the New York Times more than 48 hours to correct the record? Will right-wing news sites that picked up the story like Drudge Report and Newsmax correct the record for their readers?
Here is the retraction, here's the original article.

There's no relief yet from the heat wave gripping the country. At least Denver has little humidity which makes it slightly more bearable. Except I'll be in court in Omaha tomorrow where I'm not likely to be so lucky.
For all who are suffering, here's a little musical relief -- a double header-- Martha and the Vandellas singing "Heat Wave" and The Lovin' Spoonful doing "Summer in the City."

Dan Quayle walked out of John Mellencamp concert Friday when he heard Mellencamp introduce his song "Walk Tall" with a dedication "to everyone hurt by policies of the current Bush administration."
For Mr. Qayle, here's what you missed:

With all the war going on in the world tonight.....here's Buffy Saint Marie's 1970 live television performance of Universal Soldier, which she says she wrote to express "individual responsibility for war and how the old feudal thinking kills us all."
It starts about 1 minute, 15 seconds in, but the first minute gives a good glimpse into what live tv music shows looked like in the pre-MTV age.
This was one of the first songs I learned to play on the guitar in the late 60's and I played it so many times I can still recite the words. But for those of you who can't, here they are:

Bob Novak gave up two sources, and is holding on to the third by a thread. What happens when you give people up? The Eagles had it right, in Tequilla Sunrise:
Oh, and it's a hollow feelin' when
It comes down to dealin' friends
It never endsTake another shot of courage
Wonder why the right words never come
You just get numb
It's another tequila sunrise, this old world
still looks the same,
Another frame, mm...
Here are the Eagles:

Tom Petty has not been one to frequently mix his politics into his music. I guess drastic times call for drastic measures -- and I applaud him for this interview in the new Esquire [Via Down with Tyranny]:
"The war in Iraq is shameful. Whether you're pro or con Bush, you've got to admit: The guy lied. And he continues to do so. I can't understand why he's just not run out on a rail. To send somebody's kids off and have them killed for no good reason--he's going to have his day in hell for that. I wouldn't want that karma.
When you kill somebody's little sister with a missile, he's going to hate you forever. And the next generation will hate you even more.
So, for Tom Petty tonight, here's Won't Back Down -- performed with George Harrison and Ringo Starr.

Rush Limbaugh's shrink has copped to writing a viagra presecription for Rush in his own name. So...Rush's deferred prosecution stays.
The state attorney's office said Dr. Steve Strumwasser's name was on the Viagra bottle, not Limbaugh's. Strumwasser, who is Limbaugh's psychiatrist, told authorities he "agreed to have his name on the label in an effort to avoid potentially embarrassing publicity for the suspect," according to a filing by the prosecutor's office.
"Thus, the medication contained in the subject pill bottle was legitimately prescribed to the suspect by his physician," the filing said.
But, what about the doctor?
