David Shuster's Offensive Remark: Chelsea Clinton Being "Pimped"

By Big Tent Democrat

We all know NBC is the Obama Broadcasting Company but this is ridiculous:

An apology from Shuster is in order. Immediately.

[Update TL: Shuster suspended. This thread's closing, please comment further at new one. Thanks.]

The Divisiveness Is Tearing The Party Apart! Isn't It? Hello?

Remember when the Media and Dem Party leaders were wringing their hands over how the Democratic primary battles were creating unbridgeable divides in the Party? Either the GOP is made a sterner stuff (a very distinct possibility) or the Media is demonstrating yet another double standard as they seem unconcerned about this, via HuffPo:

Romney was asked about the criticism, launched by McCain, that he has a timeline for withdrawing troops from Iraq.

"I don't have one, never had," Romney said.

"[McCain] says you do," chimed a reporter.

"Well, he's lying," replied the former governor. . .

How can the GOP survive this vicious fighting? Will the Media take notice and wonder when the Party Elders are going to step in? Do not hold your breath.

Your Vote for Worst Political Pundit

My vote for the worst political pundit on tv, the one who is the least informed, least qualified, most biased -- who is such a relic that all his references are to ancient events with no current relevance -- is Carl Bernstein on CNN.

He's an embarassment to CNN and he may be enough to make me switch to another channel.

Who's your least favorite pundit?

Cheering In The Press Box

Keith Olbermann came out of sports so I know he knows that cheering in the press box is frowned upon. But he has led a broadcast from the beginning of the night to the end that has been in essence a cheerleading session for the demise of the Clintons.

I guess this is their revenge for New Hampshire. Tweety must be kicking himself tonight to miss out on the party.

In all seriousness, this was an atrocious performance from NBC. From top to bottom.

Hilariously, NBC continues to be a joke. They now scold Hillary for speaking after Obama. NBC has jumped the shark. When Obama conceded in New Hamopshire, the concession part was a minute and then the speech went on and on. No one cut him off. Keith Olbermann's perforamcne has been utterly disgraceful.

The Media's Clinton Derangement Syndrome

Via Taylor Marsh, Media Matters has Craig Crawford's terrific appearance on MSNBC this morning:
CRAWFORD: You know, I have sat down here in Florida for the last month. And I have watched the coverage, and I really think the evidence-free bias against the Clintons in the media borders on mental illness. I mean, I think when Dr. Phil gets done with Britney [Spears], he ought to go to Washington and stage an intervention at the National Press Club. I mean, we've gotten into a situation where if you try to be fair to the Clintons, if you try to be objective, if you try to say, "Well, where's the evidence of racism in the Clinton campaign?" you're accused of being a naïve shill for the Clintons. I mean, I think if somebody came out today and said that Bill Clinton -- if the town drunk in Columbia [South Carolina] came out and said, "Bill Clinton last night was poisoning the drinking water in Obama precincts," the media would say, "Ah, there goes Clinton again. You can't trust him." I really think it's a problem. You know what? You guys make him stronger with this bashing. This actually is what makes the Clintons stronger.
Amen Craig. Amen.

Huffpo Launches Huffpollstrology

Arianna at Huffington Post is not big on pollsters. Today the site launched a new feature, Huffpollstrology.

It will keep you up to date on the latest poll results, along with the candidates' latest horoscope predictions, the latest online political betting lines, and the latest weather forecasts for key primary states (and we know how accurate those often turn out to be!). Pollstrology is a great way to see who is hot and who is not -- and which candidates' stars say they might be lucky in voter love today.

I know the astrology part is somewhat tongue-in-cheek, but I'm going to take it a step further anyway. HuffPo gives us the birthdates of the three top Dems, but we need more. We need birth times so we can examine their entire charts. We need rising signs, Moon and Venus placement, a picture of what planets are in their 10th houses. Thanks to Google, the results are below:

How the Media Flunked in New Hampshire

It wasn't just the pollsters that blew New Hampshire. Eric Boehlert explains how the media did an equally dismal job.

After providing plentiful examples, Boehlert says:

In today's campaign coverage, what journalists think about unfolding events takes precedence over what voters think. Voters have become essentially secondary, props in the background that are occasionally queried for a color quote. And that's a big reason why the press missed the New Hampshire story -- that, and the fact that the press was so anxious to write Clinton off as "toast."

Read the whole thing. And keep it in mind as you read continuing mainstream media reporting on the presidential race.

Ike Turner Autopsy: Cocaine Overdose?

This is bizarre. A medical coroner attributes Ike Turner's death to a cocaine overdose and finds that his long time cardiovascular disease and emphysema were contributing factors.

Ike Turner was 76 years old. His daughter said,

Turner's daughter, Mia, said she was surprised by the coroner's assessment. She said her father's emphysema was at such an advanced stage that he was on oxygen and extremely weak in the last days of his life.

"He just couldn't—he'd gone at the time of his death four or five days without doing anything, and if he'd done anything, it would have been so minimal," Mia Turner said. "He was too weak from the emphysema to do anything. He'd go in the studio for a couple of minutes and play a couple of bars and say he had to go lay down."

The Golden Globes: The Shame

The Golden Globes are airing tonight with a bunch of readers from Entertainment Tonight, E!, the Insider and other gossip shows presenting the awards, poor audio that cuts out frequently, no stars and on CNN, Larry King talking over the readers. The audience, which isn't shown, consists of 600 studio execs and other such types.

If anyone doubted the Writers' Strike is having a huge impact on the entertainment industry, this should remove them.

The Oscars could meet the same fate next month.
