For anyone up early enough to watch, this morning's news shows include:
- Meet the Press: Hillary Clinton
- CNN's Late Edition: John Edwards, Huckabee, Romney
- Face the Nation: Huckabee and Romney
- Fox News Sunday: Giuliani
Chris Matthews: assorted media pundits, no candidates, just spin.
The good news is no one was hurt. The odd news is the disparate versions about the mishap.
First, ABC News: The headline is "Obama's Plane Strikes Parked Plane on Runway"
From the text of the article:
At 2:45 a.m. Central Time, the Gulfstream 2 plane that carried Obama, nine other passengers and two crew members struck a parked Cessna 208 general aviation plane, which can carry 10 to 12 passengers.
There was minor damage to the wings of both aircraft, although no one on either of the planes was injured.
It then gives this background:
Before leaving his Las Vegas event that evening, Obama commented that he only had one hour to speak to the crowd, so his pilot wouldn't get "cut off" and so he wouldn't get in trouble with his wife. Obama will be in Chicago today, enjoying a prescheduled day off with his family.
Compare The Swamp, from the Chicago Tribune:

I'm not sure why journalist Sidney Blumenthal's DUI arrest is worth this much attention, but it's gone from the Nashua Telegraph to the Associated Press to Newsweek .
Blumenthal, an unpaid senior adviser to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, was arrested in Nashua on the eve of the New Hampshire primary and charged with aggravated DWI, according two members of the Nashua police force.
The aggravated part stems from his alleged speeding, 70 mph in a 30 mph. Blumenthal told the officer he was trying to find his way back to his hotel.
Blumenthal, a journalist and author currently working as a senior fellow for the New York University Center on Law and Security, was a gracious arrestee. “I asked if he was here with a campaign. He said he was here with Clinton," Masella said. “Other than that we certainly suspected him of DWI, he was a perfect gentleman."

Media Matters has begun a campaign against MSNBC's Chris Matthews over his years of blatant bias against women on Hardball.
The action alert quotes Big Tent Democrat of TalkLeft as calling for his removal from coverage of the presidential race.
While, like Big Tent, I have criticized Chris Matthews for his sexist comments about Hillary Clinton, I'm more of a "change the channel" person.
If more people would watch the competition, his ratings would plummet. MSNBC would conclude pretty quickly it had a Chris Matthews problem and he'd be gone. Conversely, all the attention calling for his ouster is likely to raise his profile and gain him more viewers, even if they're only tuning in to hear his latest misogynistic rant. If his ratings go up, MSNBC is going to be thanking its lucky stars, not considering taking action against him.More....

Bill Richardson just praised Daily Kos and bloggers involvement in the political process on Hannity and Colmes. He also said he was sorry he missed Yearly Kos due to a scheduling conflict.
In other comments, he continued to refuse to endorse either Hillary or Obama or to count Edwards out. Hannity asked him if he thought Hillary could win given her "unfavorability rating" and he said yes.

The intro is a little dumb but so is the debate about whether a woman is tough enough to be President. And once the music starts (at 1:00 in) this is a great performance by Bette Midler, with Mick Jagger as her sidekick.

"I was laughing because you know in that debate, obviously Sen. Edwards and Sen. Obama were kind of in the buddy system on the stage. And I was thinking whoever's up against the Republican nominee in the election debates come the fall is not gonna have a buddy to fall back on. You know, you're all by yourself. When you're president, you're there all by yourself," - Senator Clinton on her two rivals for the nomination. Notice another subtle use of the gender card. We really are headed back to the 1990s.(Emphasis supplied.) Say what? The buddy system is only used by males?
The buddy system is a procedure in which two people, the buddies, operate together as a single unit so that they are able to monitor and help each other. . . . The buddy system is used in: The US Army. Scuba diving, where it is called buddy diving. . . . Firefighting, where it is called the two-in, two-out principle. So is Sully thinking of a world where women are not part of the army or go scuba diving or can be firefighters? And he wonders why people think he hates women.

You can't make this stuff up. Chris Matthews on "Morning Joe" says the reason Hillary Clinton won her New York Senate seat and is a front-runner in the presidential race is because Bill Clinton "messed around." [Via TPM]
He's why I watched CNN (except when Lou Dobbs was on) until after the winner was announced.

Even after having her nose rubbed in it, Maureen Dowd stil does not get it. The voters of New Hampshire rebuked the Tweety/Dowd Media axis of Hillary hater and misogyny and she tries to crack wise:
Yet, in the end, she had to fend off calamity by playing the female victim, both of Obama and of the press. Hillary has barely talked to the press throughout her race even though the Clintons this week whined mightily that the press prefers Obama. . . . At her victory party, Hillary was like the heroine of a Lifetime movie, a woman in peril who manages to triumph. Saying that her heart was full, she sounded the feminist anthem: “I found my own voice.”
You foolish woman. Hillary did not play the victim. The Tweety/Dowd Media Axis tried to victimize Clinton. Your team lost Ms. Dowd. But like the losing team you are, you will continue to pound your losing tactics. Hillary will only prosper now from your misogynistic attacks.
The Clinton campaign must be thinking, "keep up the good work" MoDo and Tweety and Co. And Obama must be cursing your name.

I'm politicked out and need a little rock and roll.
It's cold and lonely in the deep, dark night
I can see Paradise by the dashboard light....We got a real pressure cooker going here
...nobody on, no score, bottom of the ninth,
Joe Klein claims Obama's win was over the angry Dem base and vitriolic bloggers:
Iowa's decision was about style, not substance. Obama didn't offer many new ideas and precious few that were different from his opponents'. He offered civility. At one point, Clinton tried "Turn Up The Heat" as her slogan and, throughout, John Edwards' rhetoric was so hot that it eventually burned him to a cinder. Obama's unspoken slogan was "Turn Down the Heat." The blogger Daily Kos endorsed Obama at first then, frustrated by the lack of fire, un-endorsed him. The far left wing of the Democratic Party may have to rethink the value of vitriol now.
Now Joe Klein is a particularly obtuse member of the Media who has fought his battles with the bloggers and thinks everything is about him. And He is wrong in saying that Markos endorsed Obama (though I did and I did unendorse him at the end; but I am pretty sure Klein has never heard of me). But this is a theme the Media and High Broderists will adopt.
This is in line with my earlier concerns about the message of the Obama victory.

In case you did not know. Just compared her to Freddy Krueger. Compare, as others have, to how all McCain needs is well NOTHING, in Iowa to be the Comeback Kid. It would be funny if it was not so pathetic.
One thing I have noticed watching the coverage, NOT ONE NETWORK has focused on the most important issue tonight - will Independents and Republicans turn out for Obama. Tweety even said that if Hillary gets 30% that means 7 of 10 Democrats will have rejected her. forget the fact that a vote for Obama is NOT likely to be seen be all as a vote against Hillary, the DMR poll says that 45% of caucusgoers will NOT be Democrats!
And poor Edwards. Peter Fenn said that EVEN IF EDWARDS WINS he is in deep trouble. Oy!
Obama and McCain the clear Media Darlings tonight no matter what. Ah the Media.
