On the dinner menu: Homemade spaghetti and meatballs.
TalkLeft moved to a new server over the weekend. It should be faster, but the automatic formatting isn't working in the post-writing window (comments are fine) so I have to post and then go back and add the formatting. Hopefully, it will be fixed soon.

7-7 last week. 49-52-1 on the season. Yanks out. Gators in tatters. But today begins a new run. Let's start with the Missouri Tigers playing at home against BCS #1 Oklahoma. I like the Tigers (+4) at home. I've now watched 3 Oklahoma games and 2 Mizzou games. Oklahoma is not that good and Mizzou is better than I thought. The emotion of playing at home can carry them through.
I've become a believer in Auburn. I think they are going to win the SEC. And it starts by giving LSU a beatdown today at home. I love Auburn (-6) in this game. A 10 unit play. More . . .

Yanks are still on the brink as they return to Texas tonight for Game 6 of the ALCS. If they find a way to win tonight, Cliff Lee will be waiting in Game 7. It will be a spectacular comeback if they can do it. The Phillies go home for Games 6 and 7 after Halladay beat Lincecum. I think the Phillies have the better chance of the comeback, with Oswalt and Hamels lined up. But the Giants just need one.
Speaking of baseball, Marvin Miller is not in the Hall of Fame. That's a disgrace. As Red Barber said, Miller is one of the 3 most important figures in the last century of baseball, with Ruth and Robinson. Here's a cool site, ThanksMarvin.com:
The election of [Bowie] Kuhn [to the Hall of Fame] and the rejection of Marvin was absurd. — Fay Vincent, Commissioner of Major League Baseball, '89-'92
I did not remember Kuhn was voted into the Hall of Fame. What a joke.

Juan Williams' post-firing statement confirms what those who have listened to him over the years have known all along: Fox News is where he belongs.
Two statements say it all:
I say an ideological battle because my comments on "The O’Reilly Factor" are being distorted by the self-righteous ideological, left-wing leadership at NPR.
and
They are taking bits and pieces of what I said to go after me for daring to have a conversation with leading conservative thinkers.
NPR is "Left wing" while Fox showcases "leading conservative thinkers." What more do you need to know? [More...]

Slate, which is owned by the Washington Post, and Fred Hiatt, who works for the Washington Post, think Juan Williams should not have been fired.
Why doesn't the Washington Post hire him then? He's available. And gawd knows the WaPo Op-Ed page publishes a stunning array of crap already. One more source for it won't matter. It is obvious that NPR's standards are different than WaPo and Fox News. Why not stick to worrying about their own editorial decisions and less about those made by other media organizations?

In the news: The Obama Administration files it appeal of the order staying DADT; a profile of San Francisco DA Kamala Harris, who is running for California Attorney General against Los Angeles DA Steve Cooley; the voicemail Clarence Thomas' wife left for Anita Hill:
"I just wanted to reach across the airwaves and the years and ask you to consider something. I would love you to consider an apology sometime and some full explanation of why you did what you did with my husband."
I have no intention of apologizing because I testified truthfully about my experience and I stand by that testimony," said Hill in a statement released last night.

I've tried, but I just don't like Boardwalk Empire. It's depressing, viscerally unappealing and the characters are completely one-dimensional. I don't care about any of them. I also don't think Steve Buschemi was a good choice for the lead character.
At least there's a new Next Iron Chef, Desperate Housewives and Brothers and Sisters.

For the second straight week last Saturday, like my Gators, I crashed and burned with my college picks, going 7-10-1, and falling to 42-45 for the season. Like the Gators, my season can still be a success. So here are this week's picks:
Ohio State (-4.5) over Wisconsin. No state that considers dumping Russ Feingold deserves a win in this type of game. That is also why the Packers are falling apart. Repent! Wisconsin.
Mich St. (-7) over Illinois. Usually this is a game Mich State loses, the one after a big win. Something feels different in Lansing to me. Let me put it this way - it's a shame Ohio State and Michigan State don;t play each other this year. More . . .
