Halloween Night TV and Open Thread

What a perfect night for AMC to premiere its new series, "Walking Dead."

If zombies and the apocalypse aren't your thing, there are new episodes of Boardwalk Empire, the Next Iron Chef, Desperate Housewives and Brothers and Sisters.

What was your favorite candy today? And what will you do with the leftovers?

This is an open thread, all topics welcome.

    A new Lancet study posits...

Alcohol is more dangerous than illegal drugs like heroin and crack cocaine, according to a new study.

British experts evaluated substances including alcohol, cocaine, heroin, ecstasy and marijuana, ranking them based on how destructive they are to the individual who takes them and to society as a whole.

Researchers analyzed how addictive a drug is and how it harms the human body, in addition to other criteria like environmental damage caused by the drug, its role in breaking up families and its economic costs, such as health care, social services, and prison.

Chocolate was not included in the study...

I concur with the Lancet study...alcoholism is the worst form of addiction I've come across in  my life, by far.

And no, bringing back prohibition would not help, it would only increase the damage done.

zombies have a pretty short shelf-life, as dangerous things. they're dead, which means they've already started rotting. given the right weather conditions, and they won't be able to move in a day or two.

Mar Haven's Solitaire N' Blackjack finished his Canadian Championship yesterday at a Holloween show.  His regular name is Jack, it was changed from his previous name Dealer in order to put the past in the past.  Jack comes out of some of the best showlines in North America, but was abandoned and left to die by the owner/handler who had him.  I don't why.  He was found with another very well bred male German Shepherd named Cajun.  People from all over the world came together to fund rehabbing the dogs if they could be saved.  Both dogs have come to settle with Morris Bartucci at Loretto Kennels in Canada.  He calls everyone though who is involved with loving, and saving, and taking care of and showing Jack "Team Jack".

I saw it in a trick-or-treaters bag and the nostalgia hit me...negotiated a trade for 3 more of the Kit-Kats I was giving out.

    no football today :)?

Prop 19 might fail... but I really think it's only a matter of time at this point.

Did you see Zack Galifinakis on Bill Maher?  Pretty awesome.  You knew it was real because the audience started out clapping and laughing, but as the smoking (and smell) progressed they really went nuts.  Plus the fact that he continued smoking it as the show went on.

very cool, I knew it was a real joint when the conservative woman (forgot her name) smiled and said "good stuff" or something like that.

Though I would have liked the sparkage of the doobie to be followed by more discussion of marijuana prohibition and how silly it all is, something like Zack puffing away saying "this is what all the handcuffs are about?"....but Zack got all stoned-quiet and the others seemed a bit freaked out by the gesture, and changed the subject.

and this is where I will drop it, since running my mouth means nothing good for the pats.

In other football news though - RANDY MOSS WAS JUST WAIVED BY THE VIKINGS

A teensy tiny part of me wants every other team to take a pass just so we can get him back.  I don't think it will happen, I don't even really think it would necessarily be a good thing, but I kind of want it nonetheless.

at least the Jets are still holding the tiebreakers...for now, that could all change when we trek up to NE.

And though I know it makes me an awful human being, I must admit I took joy in seeing Favre carted off on the stretcher...well done! :)

I think you're nuts for wanting the malcontent back...you've won titles with Branch, never with Moss.

but as time passes and the pain fades - there was something pretty special about 2007.

Don't get me wrong, that hurt more than a football game should ever hurt - but I will never forget that season.  And it never would have happened without Moss.

I think he's holding a grudge against management...but with a fresh start someplace else, Good Moss could resurface.

I hear the Jets are rumored to be interested...that makes no sense to me at all, we're set at WR, even with yesterday's case of the dropsies.

might consider moss, as a short-term fill in. at the moment, the only sure-handed receiver on the whole team is chris cooley, and he's a TE, and hurt. the rest of them seem to have a lack of familiarity with the ball, as though they've never seen one before.
