Late Night Blog Fight

I usually stay out of these, but this one is too weird not to mention. Law Prof Eric Muller, a mostly progressive blogger went after Michelle Malkin today. He tracked the times of her postings throughout the day and evening (actually, for 36 hours) and concluded that she doesn't write all her material and has other people writing in her name. Michelle responds here.

Eric probably got more comments on his blog from this post than any he's written in his several years of blogging. Almost all are very critical of his attack. Sure, some readers came over from Michelle's site, which does not allow comments, but there are lots of his own readers telling him how off-base he was.

Add me to the list. In fact, it's creepy, almost like cyber-stalking. (Although Michelle goes a little overboard in calling him "insanely obsessed" and "deranged.")

[Insert and Addition: I just want to make clear that I think what Eric did is creepy and like cyber-stalking, I don't think he is creepy or a cyberstalker. I understand he was trying to prove something about her writing. My concern is that it will give others the same idea to track bloggers' whereabouts, and I think that is a very dangerous path to go down from a privacy and security standpoint. End of Insert]

Here's my comment, which does not yet appear on Eric's site because it has to be approved:

Congrats to the Koufax Liberal Blogging Award Winners

The Koufax Liberal Blogging Awards winners were announced today. Congrats to all the winners, particularly, Confined Spaces, a blog about the workplace health and safety issues, which won the best single issue category. TalkLeft came in second, and we proudly pass the crown, having won the category in 2002, 2003 and 2004. I'm grateful that TalkLeft did so well among the incredible competition. Thanks to everyone who voted for us.

Major congrats to winners Crooks and Liars (best blog, non professional), Daily Kos (best community blog), Digby (best writing), Firedoglake (best series writing for PlameGate) and Glenn Greenwald of Unclaimed Territory (best new blog.)

The full winner's list is below.

'Round the Bloggerhood, Open Thread

What's going on in your neck of the blogosphere? Here's what's happening in mine:

  • A human rights group is alleging there is a secret death camp in Sujiatun, Shenyang City, Liaoning Province in China. The group charges that doctors at the camp are harvesting the organs of Falun Gong practitioners -- and in the cases of corneas, particularly the elderly and children, even while they are still alive. And that there are gas chambers on the premises and no one seems to come out alive. The Washington Times reported on the charges here.
  • The NORML Aspen CLE program for June 1 to 3 just keeps getting better and better. (I'll be one of the speakers, my topic is "Terrorism and the War on Drugs.") On Saturday afternoon, Hunter Thompson's widow, Anita Thompson, has invited the seminar attendees out to the fabled Owl Farm in Woody Creek to spend the afternoon. The Aspen Times has this writeup of NORML coming to town.

Thursday Open Thread

Jill Caroll's been released. William Arkin has a fascinating column on what 9/11 plotter Khalid Sheikh Mohammed had to say about the plans for the 9/11 and future attacks.

The South Carolina Senate has approved the death penalty for pedophiles.

Murray Waas has a new National Journal article on pre-war intelligence.

And an open thread for you.

Tuesday Open Thread

What's Tuesday, without an open thread?

Immigration, Spying Nation, Censuring the President, you decide what to talk about. But don't miss Damn Foreigner on the immigration debate.

On a blogging note, I wish people would stop bashing Jeff at Protein Wisdom for anything but his politics. Why attack him for being a stay-at-home dad? He's a Denver blogger and my friend. His wife has helped me with the coding on TalkLeft. He has the best list anywhere of great movies and his non-political posts such as his conversations with a macintosh apple and a deadbeat neighbor are creative. He also let me guest-blog and put my politics on his site when he went on vacation. Enough already.

Have fun.

Sunday Open Thread and Blogaround

I've got miles to go before I blog today, so here's a round-up and space to discuss. Tomorrow the Senate begins debating dastardly changes to our immigration laws. We are a nation of immigrants and it would be great if every blogger wrote a post today or tomorrow about how their ancesters, grandparents or parents, whatever the case may be, got here. We could get a great meme going on this, especially if readers added their stories in the comments. I intend to write mine tonight -- I'm going to the office to now to try and locate a picture of my great-grandfather.

Ok, first news, then blogs:

Koufax Liberal Blog Award Voting Ends Sunday

If you haven't yet voted in the Koufax Liberal Blogging awards, please do. Voting ends Sunday. (Remember, you can only vote once in each category.)

TalkLeft has won the Best Single Issue Blog category the past three years, but this year we have the most competititon ever. Most of our supporters vote by e-mail, rather than leaving their vote in the comments here, but you can do either.

You can e-mail your vote directly to Wampum by clicking here and hitting your send button. (If that doesn't work, try this and put "koufax" in the subject line and "Talkleft for best single issue blog" in the body.)

Open Thread

Have you been to your local jail lately? That's where I'm headed, so if you've got stuff to talk about, here's some space. I'll be back late this afternoon.

  • Jane at Firedoglake has the latest unhinging of Joe Lieberman
  • Avedon Carol at Sideshow has her usual great roundup
  • Sentencing Law and Policy reports on a new paper with a reasoned approach to dealing with sex offenders -- one that "draw[s] upon lessons learned from the past and New York's experience with legislation that was driven by fear and political rhetoric -- the Rockefeller drug laws."

Voting Begins in Final Round of Koufax Awards

Thanks to all the TalkLeft readers who voted for us in the opening round of the Koufax Awards for liberal bloggers. We've made it to the finals in the "best single issues blog" category once again. The polls just opened and here is the list of finalists.

TalkLeft has won this award the past three years, but this year will be a lot harder, especially since they've increased the number of finalists from 8 to 10 and there's a professionally sponsored blog in our category.

If you'd like to vote for us, you can vote here by scrolling down to the end of the comments section, or you can e-mail your vote directly to Wampum by clicking here and hitting your send button.

Be sure to check out all the categories. You won't find a group of finer liberal blogs anywhere. Your support in this final round of voting is greatly appreciated.
