When Hillary Clinton appeared on Nightline this week, Cynthia McFadden asked her (from the transcript, ABC News, May 1, 2008, Clinton on the Rise, available on Lexis.com):
Would you be running for president if Chelsea were 10?
Hillary: No. Not a chance. I just couldn't have done it. I could never have run for office if I had young children. I just couldn't have done it.
Barack Obama brought his daughters, ages 6 and 9, along to campaign events in Indiana today. Michelle said it was an exciting time for the girls, a special treat.
Obama often mentions how he misses his children while campaigning. A few times he's flown home for a night just to be able to see them off to school in the morning. [More...]

For the third year in a row, immigrant rights rallies were held across the United States today.
From Washington to Miami to Los Angeles, immigrant rights activists demanded citizenship opportunities for the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. and an end to raids and deportations.
"We come here to fight for legalization. We're people. We have rights," said Eric Molina, an undocumented factory worker who immigrated to Zion, Ill., from Mexico.
And no human being is illegal. Here's what's needed. [More...]

Looks like all we'll be hearing about for the next few days is the cost of gas. Anyone remember when big engines were all the rage?
Little GTO, you're really lookin' fine
Three deuces and a four-speed and a 389
Listen to her tachin' up now, listen to her why-ee-eye-ine
C'mon and turn it on, wind it up, blow it out GTO
What was your first car? Mine was a 1957 Austin Healey 100-6 I bought in 1966 with $300.00 I saved from my after school job. After that it was Mustang convertibles for me.
This is an open thread, see you all tomorrow.

Hillary Clinton has released a new ad in Indiana criticizing Barack Obama for opposing the suspension of the gas tax.
Hillary's plan: Use the windfall profits of the oil companies to pay to suspend the gas tax this summer. Barack Obama says "No."People are hurting, it's time for a President who's ready to take action now.

The New York Times reports on Reverand Jeremiah Wright's monomania.
Now it turns out that Mr. Wright doesn’t hate America, he loves the sound of his own voice. He is not out of touch with the American culture, he is the avatar of the American celebrity principle: he grabbed his 30-second spots of infamy and turned them into 15 minutes of fame.
.... Chuck Todd, the NBC political director... summed up Mr. Wright’s apologia by paraphrasing a Carly Simon song: “You’re so vain, I bet you think this campaign is about you.”
David Axelrod: "“He is doing his own thing,” Mr. Axelrod said wearily by telephone. “There’s not a thing we can do about it.”
Another blast from the past: This February, 2007 Rolling Stone article about Obama and Rev. Wright.

The last ten minutes of Rev. Wright's speech. The theme of the speech: "A change is going to come. We can do it if we try."
He is a powerful speaker, no doubt about it.
You can watch Parts One, Two and Three here.

I'm at work today and our threads are filling up fast so here's an open thread for you to pick the topics.
Yesterday, Obama supporter and UCLA Prof. Mark Kleiman and I debated the PA primary results on Bloggingheads tv. We had tremendous technical difficulties, not only couldn't I hear Mark well through his headphone, but we had to do the hour debate three times -- my computer crashed at the end of the first one losing the video and then his did at the end of the second. By the third time, it felt like a cross between being a broken record and forgetting to repeat our best arguments. But, if you'd like to watch it, it's broken down into segments and here it is.
Next time Mark and I are going to debate crime issues.
