TalkLeft Appreciation Days

Update: New Posts are below this one. Just scroll down. We'll be bumping this to the top periodically through lunchtime. Thanks, everyone.

****

We're working really hard. Not just at keeping you up to date with the latest on tomorrow's primaries, but in making sure the site stays civil and weeding out the drive-bys who come here not to have a reasonable debate but to slam and insult our readers or try to hijack or dominate the discussion.

This takes an increasing amount of my time because site traffic and comments are way up.

If you appreciate our coverage, today and tomorrow are the days to let us know. If you're short on funds, don't give it another thought, we'll get by:

donate to TalkLeft

More details below:

Here's the paypal link, it's very easy. If you don't like paypal (which takes credit cards if you don't have a paypal account) feel free to pull a few dollars out of your pocket and send it snail mail. The address is below the fold.

If you'd like to donate anonymously, here's the Amazon link.

If you can't afford a few dollars, don't worry about it. This is only meant for those who can. Thanks to all of you for reading TalkLeft. You are all appreciated, including those who politely disagree with us.

I just got a Food Collection notice from the post office folks.  And I'm really wondering if it's legit or not, I mean they could be reselling it to Foods Co for extra cash.  Also, my mailperson looks a little like the MUNI guy that had a half-ton of change stashed away.  What was he thinking; hoarding coins is such a bad choice!

You have to wonder what the world is coming to when the USPS has to collect food to give to needy people. And we just finished giving to a read-a-thon for my nephews elementary school district so that they can afford to buy books for the libraries and have a music program. What's the old line: Wouldn't it be nice if schools were fully funded and they had to hold a bake sale to pay for a war?

nickels  are an excellent choice...melt them puppies down and they're worth 0.068.  Pre-1982 pennies are worth 0.025 in metal.

That's why it's against the law to sell them for scrap...but if the sh*t ever really hits the fan they're both more valuable than 100 bills.

Maybe we should send our favorite blogger a donation in change...lol

I'll get something over in the next few weeks,...as much as I see the election as pointless I still love the joint:)

to the Amazon link. And this is OT, but given the rice mention in Stellaaa's post, I thought I would post this link..Free Rice It is a word game and for every word you get right, 20 grains of rice are donated to the United Nations World Food Program. 180,406,920 grains of rice were donated yesterday. Over 31 billion grains of rice have been donated through this site. That feeds a lot of people. And there are some great links for green and helpful sites on the Free Rice site. I play it a lot and usually get to the top tiers in the vocabulary level. Side effect of being a reader. Heh.

Go to there, send your kids there, improve your vocabulary, or practice it, and feed people while having fun. I try to play every day for at least a few minutes. You try too.  Please.

I've seen and read attacks on other blogs.  Jeralyn is far from attacking Obama.  She defends him and doesn't allow anyone to call him names or be aggressively disparaging.

If a spirited dialogue is considered attacks, that stmt lends credence to my arguement that BHO supporters are a little thin-skinned.

Jeralyn CERTAINLY doesn't need me to defend her. She's an attorney and can certainly articulate her position(s).  I for one haven't seen "attacks" on this blog like say, Daily Kos.

Donations should be made without condition.  Your comments don't seem trollish.  But to make that kind of accusation, you may want to start doing some linking and referencing.

its brilliant insight is given an opportunity to shine.

    (haha, I sound like royalty!)

Y'all, I stumbled over here a few months ago when a friend gave me the link.  I kept sending him crap from HuffPo and others with big ol' "WTFing F?!?!" headlines; such was my outrage.  I was appalled by the outright misogyny and Clinton hatred and complete and total denial of the Clinton era as anything good and wonderful.  As a woman, I was so excited when Clinton announced, and ready to roll in the happiness and excitement and solidarity like a pig in poo.  It was not to be.

And, then, I came here, and I felt like I could finally express my love for all things Clinton.  Y'all remember what it was like after 9-11, when admitting you were a dem was like admitting you were a pedophile?  That's how HuffPo and others made me feel about being a Clinton supporter-like it was bad, like it meant I was stupid or racist or any number of horrible things.

Anyway, I've rambled on, but lots of folks have used the words "sanity" and "TL" together, and that's exactly how I feel.

Who knows, maybe that'd motivate some folks? "We have some lovely TalkLeft tote bags... ."

No need to send one, though I appreciate the offer. I've plenty and I'm probably moving to Saudi Arabia,  dunno that it'd go over so well in those parts. No telling what they'd make of my Oscar De La Hoya vs. Floyd Mayweather tote bag....

so much, Jeralyn and BTD.  I was feeling like Diogenes, searching, not so much for an honest man, as someone -- anyone!  -- who could explain to me why they were voting for Obama.  My only conditions were 1) Hillary could not be mentioned in any way as part of the reason; and 2) any sweeping generalizations -- Change! Hope! Unity! -- must be explained in an  appropropriately policy wonkish manner, that is attached the policy(ies) that would lead to such change.

I asked this question throughout the cyberworld for several months to no avail.  In fact, I was pretty beat up by the time I stumbled in here.  This has been a safe and lovely harbor for me, and I am happy to add my small contribution.  As others have stated, I am currently giving lots of money to Hillary, but there will be more for talkleft in the future, I promise.

to have a place to come to that is not intense and  angry.  There are few places I can go where I feel that I can get unfiltered information and enjoy intelligent and forthcoming opinions form other people that share my concerns.

Talk Left has become a sanctuary for me.  You are providing such a valuable service and are true patriots!

Thanks for being here!  You are like a life raft after being cast away from the cyberspace shipwrecks that think they are progressive blogs.

I threw something in for tonight. Tomorrow after primaries, I'll do a reassessment to see if I can do more.

You folks have been a god send in this election cycle. Thanks SO MUCH.

I also plan on staying put after the election. Your other posts are equally as interesting. Plus it's nice to have adult conversation on a blog that features both sides of Demo election this year.

Thanks, Jeralyn and BTD, and when I'm able I will make my appreciation known in a more concrete manner.

    Chump change sent via Amazon.

The troll control patrol is vastly commended.

And thanks, too, for Big Tent's occasional forays to clean up a thread & smite the insults, name calling & concern trolls that appear to drop in at strange times with cute names & courteous but stupid comments.

Also, it has become evident to me that limiting (almost eliminating) the cursing (I'm a true potty-mouth in the real world) is a very good, most excellent idea.  An effort to stay civil keeps the comments more focused.

Thanks for a class & classy act.

but only started commenting a couple of months ago. I haven's clicked to Kos, et. al. since.  I just sent some change on Sunday morning, when I was feeling particularly grateful. Today I want to send some more change, because I've enjoyed reading the comments in this thread, and identified with much of it. It is a bargain. The rest goes to Hillary for now. Thanks again.

I would have lost my mind if I did not find TL during this primary.

It was also teachers' appreciation today at my son's school.  So after dropping off some blintzes in the teacher's lounge, and giving a few of his teachers some personal notes and gifts, it seems appropriate to also show my appreciation for where my mind continues to get stimulated.

Thanks Jeralyn, BTD and everyone else in the conversation.  I appreciate you all.
