Cameron Douglas, the son of actor Michael Douglas, was badly beaten in prison, after a mobster put out a bounty on him for being a snitch. He suffered a broken femur, among other injuries, and to make matters worse, according to an unnamed source, prison doctors misdiagnosed his the break as a sprain. He then developed a blood clot, and is still on crutches, two months later.
Douglas is incarcerated at the FCi in Loretto, Pennsylvania, a low level security facility. [More...]

Bob Geldorf's inspiration for the Boomtown Rats 1979 hit song "I Don't Like Mondays" was Brenda Spencer, who that year fired 30 rounds from a window inside her San Diego home at the Grover Cleveland elementary school across the street, killing a principal and custodian and wounding 8 students. Spencer was 16. She had received the rifle from her father as a Christmas gift
When asked why she committed the shooting Spencer replied, "I just did it for the fun of it. I don't like Mondays. This livens up the day. I have to go now. ....She also said, "I had no reason for it, and it was just a lot of fun," "It was just like shooting ducks in a pond,"' and, "[The children] looked like a herd of cows standing around; it was really easy pickings."

Update: Peter Lanza, the father of Adam and Ryan Lanza and former husband of Nancy Lanza, has issued this statement:
"Our hearts go out to the families and friends who lost loved ones and to all those who were injured," Peter Lanza said. "Our family is grieving along with all those who have been affected by this enormous tragedy. No words can truly express how heartbroken we are. We are in a state of disbelief and trying to find whatever answers we can. We too are asking why. We have cooperated fully with law enforcement and will continue to do so. Like so many of you, we are saddened, but struggling to make sense of what has transpired."

Update: Adam Lanza's father does not live in N.J. as previously reported by the news, but in Stamford, CT. Peter Lanza is remarried and a tax specialist and VP at GE Energy Financial Services. He is also an adjunct professor at Northeastern University in Boston. Adam's grandmother, Dorothy Champion Hanson, 78, lives in Florida.
Update: 7:37 ET : ABC has a photo of Adam Lanza when he was 13. This photo is all over the internet, and looks to be a more recent one, if it's the same person (Added: It's not, it's a photo of Ryan in 2007 from his Facebook page.)
Bump and Update 6:20pm ET: This is Ryan Lanza being taken in for questioning in Hoboken. He is not involved in the shootings. He is being cooperative and said he had not been in touch with his brother in a few years. [More...]

President Obama is speaking now.
It looks like he's reading from a statement but he's not reading all of it.
We're going to have come together and take meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this regardless of the politics.Short statement. He was emotional and seemed angry to me when he walked off. It seemed to me he didn't like some of his prepared remarks. He was perusing them but not saying anything for seconds at a time.

In an interview airing today with Barbara Walters, President Obama says his administration will not interfere with the recently passed marijuana laws in Colorado or Washington legalizing recreational marijuana use. Walters asks him if he supports marijuana legalization. His response:
"I wouldn't go that far," Obama replied. "But what I think is that, at this point, Washington and Colorado, you've seen the voters speak on this issue."
"... as it is, the federal government has a lot to do when it comes to criminal prosecutions," Obama said. "It does not make sense, from a prioritization point of view, for us to focus on recreational drug users in a state that has already said that under state law, that's legal."
This may be the most-watched Barbara Walters interview ever. It airs tonight on 20/20. You can watch Obama's answer here.
Does this mean DOJ will not challenge the laws' provisions on licensing and sales?
