Late Night: Dirty Laundry, 1993 Style

From the MTV Inaugural Ball, January 1993. I've had it on VHS all these years and just put it on You Tube. Henley's opening line: "This song is for President and Mrs. Clinton."

Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down

...We all know that crap is king

Give us dirty laundry

We love Dirty Laundry

The Casual Smear

By Big Tent Democrat

Speaking for me only

Via eriposte. Taking his cues from Josh Marshall, Ezra Klein casually smears Hillary Clinton.

His blog is published by The American Prospect, where previous casual smears of Clinton have been published.

One hopes that TAPPED will improve its standards. There will be no comments to this post.

While OlbermannThrows A Sorrow and Pity Party . . .

By Big Tent Democrat

Speaking for me only.

. . . Hillary Clinton says:

Hillary Clinton said Wednesday that she would favor restaging the Florida and Michigan primaries, if the Democratic national Committee continues to insist that primaries' original results won't be counted.

. . .[S]he added that if the Democratic National Committee continues to insist that the delegates from those states not be seated at the party's convention this summer, then the primaries should be held again. "In my view there are two options: Honor the results or hold new primary elections,'' Clinton said. She said she hoped rival Barack Obama's campaign would join her "in working to make that happen.''

While Barack Obama, his NBC network and his MSNBC news anchor are more concerned with holding a Sorrow and Pity Party, some of us are thinking about the voters in Florida and Michigan.

Please note that the votes of the people of Florida and Michigan is a big joke for Obama's newscaster. Remember this when he intones serious and sorrowful in his Special Comment. Obama's own Bill O'Reilly.

I'm watching Olbermann, and I have to say, he is rather incoherent. Not even offensive, sexist or insulting. Just sort of rambling and incoherent. My honest take. Maybe it got blue pencilled or something. I have a hard time following what he is trying to say.

The Obama News Anchor

By Big Tent Democrat

Speaking for me only.

As if NBC could do something more to convince you it is the Obama News Network, its MSNBC election night anchor is apparently going to do a Special Comment attacking Hillary Clinton. One hopes he will urge her to leave the race just for the cherry on top.

I have always accepted that Keith Olbermann's Countdown show was a biased broadcast. And that he favored the progressive and Democratic point of view on things in his choice of stories, tone and reporting. He was the Dems' Faux Noise, but sticking to the facts (while admittedly ignoring others.) But I never expected him to become Barack Obama's Bill O'Reilly/Rush Limbaugh. But he has.

In some respects, his "Special Comment" tonight comes too late for Obama, as Olbermann is already thoroughly discredited as an observer of this campaign. Might as well have Chris Matthews do it. That is where Olbermann's credibility is in this race. Will I watch it? Honestly, no. I do not enjoy his broadcasts anymore. But more than that, I never really cared for his bombastic Special Comments after the novelty of the first few wore off. But some will enjoy it. And more power to them.

NOTE - Comments closed. A particularly poor performance by the TL commenting community in this thread. Thanks for nothing.

Boehlert On Tweety And Hillary's 60 Minutes Moment

By Big Tent Democrat

Eric Boehlert writes about Tweety and Hillary's 60 Minute Moment:

Less than one second. That's how long it took Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton to answer, "Of course not," to Steve Kroft's question on 60 Minutes about whether she thought Sen. Barack Obama was a Muslim. You can time it yourself by watching the clip at YouTube.

Still, that didn't stop MSNBC's Chris Matthews from complaining on-air last week that it took Clinton "the longest time" to answer Kroft's question.

When Satire Misses the Mark

23/6 is Huffington Post's satire site. I think they crossed the line here. Take a look at their blatant sexist slams of Hillary campaign official Maggie Williams, Hillary and even Michelle Obama.

Truly awful.

On Re-Do Primaries: Carville v. Wilhelm

By Big Tent Democrat

Here is the transcript of the Carville (a Clinton supporter) v. Wilhelm (an Obama supporter) discussion of funding and holding redo primaries in Michigan and Florida. As you can see, Wilhelm is utterly on the defensive and Carville is relishing the role of urging counting the votes. This dynamic will dominate this issue. The key parts of the transcript on the flip:

Donna Brazile Damaging The Dem Party Again

By Big Tent Democrat

Speaking for me only.

Via Jerome Armstrong, Donna Brazile is at it again, this time arguing against do-over primaries AND seating the Michigan delegation in a March 7 column:

With two-thirds of the primary contests already completed, the DNC cannot allow the Florida and Michigan delegates to decide the nomination. It would be wrong. And it would be dangerous.

. . . I suggest that these two states avoid any "do-over" contests. The voters have spoken. While Obama may not like the results in Michigan, where his name didn't appear on the ballot, I have a hard time ignoring the Florida results, where his name did. More important, a do-over would send a terrible message to states already thinking about moving their primary or caucus forward in 2012 or, heaven forbid, 2011. After all, the reason the party came down hard last year was to avoid a primary being held before the winter holidays.

Late Night: Cheney's Got a Gun

With eyes on Wyoming -- Cheney country -- tomorrow, this seemed appropriate. Especially since "Unqualified support for the 2nd Amendment is the second item" of the Wyoming Democratic party's platform.
