Overnight Open Thread: All Summer Long

Kid Rock and Leonard Skynyrd performing at Fashion Rocks last week. This was my favorite segment of the show, it's great if you can see it on a tv. The audience is loving it, check out Paula Abdul dancing at her seat.

I'm at the beach in Clearwater, FL for my annual Lexis/Nexis Legal Advisory Board Meeting. Last year Lexis took us to Madrid which was awesome, but this is very nice too. (We've also been to Canada twice (Lake Louise, Calgary and the Canadian side of Niagra Falls), Bermuda, New York, Palm Beach and Palm Springs. One we got to go to Dayton, OH where all the massive Lexis servers are, It's on it's own campus and the seurity to get into that part was tighter than at any airport. Have I mentioned how much I love Lexis-Nexis?) [More...]

Apparently lipstick was the story of the day yesterday. I was barely aware of the controversy. I wonder how much it penetrated the American consciousness? I'm guessing not at all, that it was a "Freak Show" story for the Media. So I am going to ignore it.

All your non-Palin comments can go here. You can also add to the underdiscussed Ms. Palin as well if you wish.

Monday Late Night Open Thread

I'm working on my latest theory, that the only thing that still matters in this election is whether there are more evangelicals and right wing extremists in the big swing states or more of everyone else.

Did anyone else see Weeds? It was intense, to say the least.

Sunday Open Thread

Today is the first NFL Sunday of the year. In college football last night, the Florida Gators held off a gutsy Miami Hurricane team 26-3 (it was 9-3 into the fourth quarter.) I watched the game with the sound turned down because I can not stand Brent Musberger. I hope that is the last Gator game on ESPN. What happened to Ron Franklin and Mike Gottfried? Are you ready for some football?

And TChris, how does Bret Favre look in J-E-T-S JETS! JETS! JETS! green?

Finally, believe it or not, the baseball season is still ongoing. Not that anybody cares (bitter Yankee fan here.) This is an Open Thread.

Saturday Night Open Thread

In honor of yesterday's announcement that the unemployment rate is at a 5 year high (6.1 percent, not counting those who are so frustrated that they've quit looking for jobs and those who are underemployed), this open thread is brought to you by the Randy Newman song "Mr. President (Have Pity on the Working Man)."

Saturday Evening Open Thread

I survived the McCain/Palin campaign event in Colorado Springs. While I'm writing up an article about it for Salon, here's an open thread for you.

I'm humming, With G-d on our side.

What else is going on today?

Saturday Morning Open Thread

It's a relatively quiet schedule in college football today. The game that will get the most attention is the renewal of the haphazardly played Florida- Miami matchup. Miami has won the last 6 times the game was played, but that has been over the course of 25 years. Today the Gators are 3 touchdown favorites in in The Swamp. Last week the Gators beat Hawaii 56-10. Miami beat Charleston Southern 52-7.

Go Gators!

Thursday Open Thread 2

Regarding my earlier post on the Palin speech, some interesting focus group findings from Greenberg Quinlan:

Based on focus groups conducted live last night and new polling data from an oversample of married and unmarried women, Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research released the following findings about women voters’ reactions to Governor Sarah Palin[:]

Late Night: The Road to Nowhere

Harry Reid responds to Sarah Palin's speech in which she said Reid can't stand John McCain:

Jim Manley, spokesman for Senator Reid: "Anyone who knows Senator Reid knows he never backs down when he's fighting for what's right and that he always stands up to John McCain when he is wrong. Shrill and sarcastic political attacks may fire up the Republican base, but they don't change the fact that a McCain-Palin administration would mean four more years of failed Bush-Cheney policies."
