I used to buy my malpractice insurance from them until two-three years ago.  They were triple A rated, I thought.  My premium went up substantially and suddenly so I ended up with NLADA, and cut my premium in half.  AIG rep told me they were hurting because fallout post-Katrina.

Greenspan was interviewed this morning by Stephanopolis and he explained that what determines whether or not the Feds bail out is the extent of the interconnection of the particular company to the economy as a whole.  So, Greenspan explained that is why the bailout of some and not others.

Lehman Brothers files bankruptcy. (none / 0) (#6)

The NY Times is now reporting that Monday morning Lehman Bros. will file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

And B of A buys Merrill Lynch. So, B of A now controls what % of credit cards, consumer loans, consumer bank accounts, mortgages, brokerage accounts? Just seems wrong for so much to be controlled by so few.

This cannot be good for all us little people.

i can't decide what halloween costume i'll be. the Joker costumes on ebay (purple suit, bank robber clown mask... they even have a red wig and nurse outfit from joker scene) are so awesome but expensive, like over $100!

and yes i know i'm too old, and no i dont care, i like free chocolate. plus, in ny, we have an awesome halloween parade

This is really morbid so i hope nobody gets offended. This would be considered normal at the nyc Halloween parade:

Palin in nice suit, black armband, walking next to fake coffin, dabbing fake tears, with a pageant sash that says "President Palin". Hockey stick over shoulder has pierced a hole through center of the US Constitution.

okay, weird, i know. but in new york, it'd be a hit

Who's gonna take on Palin after Tina last night?

One year we got together and dressed as "professional women" since our profession's dress code doesn't go there ;) We of course went to a gathering where it was understood. Another year we "adopted" personalities opposite to who we were and went to some "yuppie" bars and got hit on right and left (apologies to mom for giving out the "old" number!) I was "Susie" and from there on out it became the name known to my friends that I needed rescue, lol!~

.. you might try for something out of the James Bond universe.  The new Bond film is slated for a November release I think, and since it will probably be mega-huge as far as the hype goes, you'll be able to catch the front end of that buzz.

I have a feeling that this hallowe'en will be a festival of Ledger Jokers, and a good Bond or Oddjob would be sure to stand out.

Joker may be popular? (none / 0) (#17)
by nycstray on Mon Sep 15, 2008 at 01:51:23 AM EST
Is it the "newest" Joker? A Vintage Joker could be cool. There are so many different ones. Early comic, TV show, from the comics books depending on year/artists, animated series, movies . . . Ok, so I've spent a bit of my work life in the Batman/Joker world, lol!~

My favorite costume I did was a puppet with no strings when I was in college. One of my instructors designed my face and a fellow student helped with the makeup. Ahhh, art school, lol!~ Another year we were dead 50's prom queens. Why? We were going to Rockabilly/Reggae at our favorite club as we did every Sunday night. It just happened to be Halloween :P

    The Race (none / 0) (#23)
by Roschelle on Mon Sep 15, 2008 at 11:10:27 AM EST
This race has become more about race than any I've ever witnessed. It will continue to polarize our country until election day and far beyond. I visit lots of sites. But I'm most astonished at African American sites that support McCain/Palin. Black Republicans? Isn't that an oxymoron?
