Overnight Open Thread: All Summer Long

Kid Rock and Leonard Skynyrd performing at Fashion Rocks last week. This was my favorite segment of the show, it's great if you can see it on a tv. The audience is loving it, check out Paula Abdul dancing at her seat.

I'm at the beach in Clearwater, FL for my annual Lexis/Nexis Legal Advisory Board Meeting. Last year Lexis took us to Madrid which was awesome, but this is very nice too. (We've also been to Canada twice (Lake Louise, Calgary and the Canadian side of Niagra Falls), Bermuda, New York, Palm Beach and Palm Springs. One we got to go to Dayton, OH where all the massive Lexis servers are, It's on it's own campus and the seurity to get into that part was tighter than at any airport. Have I mentioned how much I love Lexis-Nexis?) [More...]

I won't be posting much until I get home Sunday, but BTD and TChris will be around, and I'll try to check in. I'll be glad to have a few days free of politics. I doubt much will change before I return.

This is an open thread. What's on your agenda for the weekend?

Today's Washington Post has a lengthy article on Cindy McCain's past drug issues and those that took a fall in the process. Sad that this has to become a topic but it does call into question much of John McCain's questionable handling of the matter at the time.

As long as it is in the past, let's move on to important things like how Obama is going to win this election.

(Don't ask me.  I've put all my ideas out there - for free.  It's up to Obama and his highly paid staff to pull this off now.)

that if republicans say it enough, other republicans will start to believe it. Here are a couple others.
I stopped the bridge to nowhere
    I fired the cook
I sold the jet on ebay
She has more experience than Obama
    Issues don't matter

There are numerous others but it's bedtime.

Look I agree with BTD that we shouldn't focus so much on her, but the fact that she appears to be a pathological liar is a bit distrubing, I mean the Bridge to Nowehere thing has been called out by virtually every major press outlet why not just let it go if your her?

NPR reports on Palin this morning.

Her adoring public believes that she's been unfairly attacked (true) and that the media is biased (sometimes true) and the media should not be believed.

Thanks ever so much to all the sexist media and the rumor mongering Obama supporters.  They walked right into that trap.  Discredited themselves.  Threw their influence out the window.

that shows me essentially all statewide and federal campaign ads. Hot off the press, ads from "Our Country Deserves Better". I don't know how big the buy is, but they've got all of the greatest hits, including "God damn America," "Shame on you," and not saying the pledge. My favorite line from one of the ads:

"Barack Obama wants to force your children to learn Spanish so that they can communicate with illegal immigrant."

    Fun, fun.

Got to bed at 2am as wanted to follow up her ABC stunt. Was with british friends who are pro-american, as I live on the "OTHER" side of the pond...
Well certainly very enlightening...and jaw-dropping and ohmygodding...
The following facts are not relevant regarding her fitness to become the next POTUS , 5kids, dodgy preg eldest daughter, rigwinger
but the fact that despite running and becoming a state gubernor she is still clueless about foreign affairs, that she thinks looking at russian polar bears far away gives her an insight on the very secretive kremlin doubledeals- already the fact she glibly thinks she is fit to become potus without any modest consideration is a red flag in itself but all her interview have led my european friends to alternate sneers and worried looks
veep is an important key to our international standing do we wish to be routinely humiliated by a woman- or  a man who is not fit. Sexism has nothing to do with it, I am a woman who got to where I stand because of my brain not my chromosomes and seems to me a few voters get it wrong there. The Alaka gub. whatever his/her sex is clueless about foreign affairs , has proven unable to do the minimal readings about the job and should not have been selected. Being a hockey mom proves possibly you are a good mom but does say nothing about your guverning skills...

Besides on all the important ISSUES, we all know it is about the economy and do you think the republican administration who is responsible for the cyclopean extent of our national debt is ready to clean up its own mess

you make the experience and qualifications argument against Palin you are at the same time making an argument for McCain. There is no question in most voters minds that McCain is way more qualified than Obama to be President.

Obama doesn't hold the GOP responsible. He wants to hold hands with them. When you run that kind of campaign it's kind of hard to make them take the rap.

Univ. of Wisconsin blog reader survey needs you! (none / 0) (#34)
by Aaron Veenstra on Fri Sep 12, 2008 at 09:28:51 AM EST
I'm the student leader the Social Media & Democracy research group at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  We conducted a survey of political blog readers in 2006 and are following that up with a new study this year.  This is a two-part study, the second part of which will happen after the elections in November.  We would greatly appreciate if you could take 15-20 minutes to participate in the survey.  It is online at:

    http://www.journalism.wisc.edu/smad/08survey/start.html

If you are interested in our research group, we have a new and in-progress web site up, which has some of the papers we've produced with more on the way:

    http://www.journalism.wisc.edu/smad/

The group is overseen by Professor Dhavan Shah, and if you have questions about the study you can contact him at dshah@wisc.edu or myself at asveenstra@wisc.edu.  We hope to have initial results on our site by November and results from the full study by early 2009.  Thanks for your help, we greatly appreciate it!
