The TV season is winding down. Tonight is the last competiton on Dancing With The Stars (Go, Melissa!) and the finale of "24." Will Jack Bauer really die or get a last minute transfusion from his daughter?
The new season of The Bachelorette begins tonight with Jillian (#3 from Jason's season) meeting 30 guys and sending 10 home.
What are you doing and thinking about tonight? This is an open thread, all topics welcome.
Update: As I've mentioned before, rather than continuing to write about TV here, I decided to start a new site for my tv and movie posts. I just put it up today, so if you're interested, come on over to PopLeft.com. It's a work in progress, let me know what you think.

No TV for me tonight except the season finale of Desperate Housewives. But, finally, it's in the 80's here and we've got our Colorado sunshine back again. I've had the stereo on instead of the TV all afternoon, KBCO has been playing great music. (And you can now get an iTunes HD app for them.)
The TL kid and I are going to grill some thick steaks for dinner, with corn on the cob, salad (arugula, cucumber and strawberries, avocado and mozzarella) and fresh asparagus. And a nice bottle of red wine.
So, you're on your own. This is an open thread, all topics welcome.

BTD is on his way to a conference where he'll be for the next several days. I'm hoping commenters will fill in for him in the open threads.
What's on your agenda this weekend? I'm going to finish reading Eric Boehlert's Bloggers on the Bus. It's fun to read a book with quotes by people you know. It's also filled with details about bloggers' backgrounds I was unaware of.
If you're looking for a good read, here it is:
Bloggers on the Bus traces the online events that rocked the campaign trail and reveals the untold stories of the internet activists who made them all possible. In the tradition of Timothy Crouse's classic, The Boys on the Bus, Bloggers on the Bus investigates the cutting edge of liberal politics to reveal the stories and scandals at its very heart.

Your turn.
So if the Democrats want a truth commission, and the Republicans and Dick Cheney want a truth commission, why can’t we order up a double order of truth commission? Am I missing something here? . . . Make it happen.
Agree with John. I get the distinct feeling that the resistance mainly comes from the Obama Administration right now.

It's a shame that the press involves a "public trust." Otherwise, the Media could take its cues from American Idol:
Can a television show with a shrinking audience actually increase its revenue? In the case of “American Idol,” the answer is yes . . . Despite losing viewers in each of the last three years, “American Idol”. . . is generating ever-growing profits for its creators and, it appears, for Fox Broadcasting through brand extensions, marketing arrangements and licensing fees.
The New York Times could sell naming rights - The Federal Express NYTimes? Anyway, this is an Open Thread.

Happy Mothers Day.
After calling my mother, I turned on the TV and remembered why I do not watch Sunday Talk anymore. ABC had their roundtable of Stephanopolos, Will, Donaldson, Cokie Roberts with Robert Reich. Apart from Reich, the ignorance was stunning.
One particular passage -- Will said that "the bankruptcy law was altered" in the Chrysler matter to "save the union." Of course, in Will's mind, the bankruptcy law was designed to destroy unions and save the Masters of the Universe.

Still busy time for me. I have one post bubbling in my brain about the value of diversity. I do not care for the approach of some on the progressive side in describing it. They seem more focused on how it affects outcomes rather than diversity being an outcome of equality (particularly equal opportunity) itself. Thinking through how to write what I think about that issue.

I'm going to watch Last Chance Harvey and Benjamin Button, both of which arrived via Netflix this week.
What's going on in your neck of the woods? Here's an open thread to discuss more important -- or less important -- matters.

A bevy of beauty queens got together yesterday to express their beliefs. Present and former winners of Miss USA, Miss Teen USA, Miss Universe, and Miss California titles recorded a PSA that included these memorable lines:
"I believe when I express my opinion I have a responsibility to do it in a way that respects others who may not agree … I believe in love … I believe when two people with opposite views communicate with love and respect both points of view can be heard … I believe no one should be silenced if they are speaking from their heart with respect … I believe in the beauty of California."
Carrie Prejean couldn't make it, but we already know what she believes. What do you believe?
