Melania and Jared: They're Back

Vanity Fair's editorial staff is considering a protest walk-out if Melania Trump is put on the magazine's cover.

Get ready for a deluge of mainstream media coverage of the non-present spouse of the man who has a desk in the oval office. She's written a book, has a photo-journal coming out, and Trump will pull out all the stops to make sure she gets a slew of coverage.

Republicans want to change the name of the Kennedy Centers Opera House to bear Melania's name. The measure passed a House Committee but seems to be in limbo.

My reaction: Ick.

More ick: Trump brought back Jared Kushner for a meeting on Gaza. Another sign that Trump's plan is to give Kushner's company the contract to build Gaza into the Middle-Eastern Riviera, perhaps named after Donald? With Ivanka doing the decorating? [More...]

The lyrics that made me think of Melania and Donald's relentless need for fame and a permanent legacy, such as their names on buildings or his face on Mount Rushmore:

[Bridge]
....
We all wanna be big, big stars
Yeah, but we got different reasons for that
Believe in me
'Cause I don't believe in anything
And I, I wanna be someone to believe

....Mr. Jones and me Staring at the video
When I look at the television, I wanna see me
Staring right back at me
We all wanna be big stars
But we don't know why and we don't know how
But when everybody loves me
I wanna be just about as happy as I can be

should tell Melania they are going to do a cover with her and then proceed when she shows up for the interview ask her all the questions about Jeffrey Epstein. She will probably leave and then VF can write an editorial about how they were going to feature Melania but she refused an interview.

the lawyer basically confirmed intelligence agencies were involved.  He confirmed (by avoiding the question) sitting members of the government and Congress were in the files.

And the best thing that happened is he joined the victims in saying he knew names and would help them make a list of their own.  That has to have some people sweating.

If I understood, that to protect their identities MTG would read the names on "the list".  On the floor of the House.

I mean, you know she would totally do it.

In a big partisan way that the way to get rid of Kennedy is to highlight the fact he is trashing and defunding Trump's MAJOR NOBEL WORTHY achievement

    Operation warp speed.

It's pretty smart.  Trump will not be happy with this conversation.

It is also anathema to them that we, as individuals, have moral duties to the community. They appear to reject the whole idea of public health -- where I get a vaccine (or give it to my child) not only to protect myself and my own family, but also to ensure that I do not endanger others. And can be compelled to do so, for the common good, even if that is not my preference. They actually do not seem to believe in the idea of a common good. Even though "promot[ing] the general Welfare" was one of the principal justifications, as recited in the Preamble, for "ordain[ing] and establish[ing]" the Constitution of the United States.

I was screaming at the tv. "You're the GD top medical official in that state. It's your freaking job to do just that."

Again, it is as you said. They do not believe in the common good. It's all me me me.

has spread to veterinary medicine. Some  owners are not getting rabies vaccines for their dogs because they fear their pets will become autistic.  Now it is true that a dog may not let go of a bone or expect routines, like feeding times--- but only these Kennedy-type nut jobs are believers. But, there is an increase in rabies in some states such as Florida.

Interesting,  and relevant, that the Constitution of the Confederate States of America, adopted in 1861,  closely followed the structure of the U.S. Constitution (with, of course, the slavery protection and promotion provisions) but deleted the "promoting the general welfare".

The current iteration of the Confederacy similarly rejects the idea of the common good. Moreover, if the Democrats believe something is good, it must be opposed. We are, once again, in a spot in our history.

of the updated Covid vaccine is in turmoil.  The FDA has narrowed the eligibility. There are variations by state laws, such as scope of practice  and/ or by policy of the pharmacy.   Some states or pharmacy policy may  require a prescription for the pharmacist to administer the vaccine to those over age 65 or to those under age 65  who have certain underlying conditions.  The vaccine may be given at a doctor's office, but some physicians are uncertain as to demand and the amount of vaccine to be ordered.
