"El Mochomito" (Beltran-Guzman) Arrested in Jalisco

The Beltran-Leyva cartel took another big hit Friday with the arrest of "Mochomito" -- Alfredito Beltran-Guzman, son of Alfredo Beltran-Leyva, who is in custody in Washington, D.C. awaiting the imposition of sentence -- in Zapopan, Jalisco. He was reportedly arrested at a barber shop.

The Government alleges "El Mochomito" was behind the attacks on El Chapo's mother's house in June, and the kidnapping of El Chapo's sons at a restaurant in Puerta Vallarta in August. El Chapo is his uncle.

According the the Government's press release, he moved operations from Culiacan in Sinaloa to Guadalajara, where through intelligence work of the Drug Enforcement Division of the Federal Police, they determined where he was and arrested him and four others with no shots being fired. The statement was jointly issued by the Federal Police, the Ministry of the Navy, the Secretariat of National Defense, the Center for Investigation and National Security, and the Attorney General.[More...]

According to investigations, Jesus Alfredo "N" is considered one of the main generators of violence in the state of Sinaloa and presumably is related to the kidnapping of several people occurred at a restaurant in Puerto Vallarta last August; as well as possible acts of violence that occurred in the month of June, in the communities of La Tuna, Arroyo Seco and La Palma, belonging to the municipality of Badiraguato, Sinaloa.

I wrote a long post about Mochomito and the feud with El Chapo's brother El Guano, who Mochomito believes killed his grandfather (his mother's father) a few months ago. Here's a news article on it from June. Here is one of my more recent posts on Mochomito, Beltran-Leyva and El Chapo Isidro (who is still at large, wanted by the U.S., and who is believed to have been in charge of at least Guasave after the arrest of Alfredo Beltran-Levya in 2008.)

Beltran-Leyva is running out of family members to run its business. Alfredo Beltran Leyva ("El Mochomo") was arrested in 2008, which set off the war between Beltran Leyva and Sinaloa, because his brothers believed El Chapo set him up. He is likely to get a life sentence in his case in D.C. in which he pleaded guilty. The Government wants him to forfeit $10 billion.

Arturo Beltran Leyva was killed in a shootout with Mexican Army in December, 2009. Hector Beltran Leyva, was captured in 2014 and is still in prison in Mexico, with a court just ruling last week he can be extradited to the U.S. The media and government officials like to claim Beltran-Leyva is now associated with fugitive Rafael Caro-Quintero, but I don't buy it.
