Thursday Night Open Thread

Looks like we need another open thread. I will be watching the debate and look forward to reading your comments tomorrow. I just got a broken blood vessel in my eye a few hours ago, and will be offline tonight to give my eyes some rest.

If Big Tent Democrat is available, he'll start a new thread for the debate.

For this thread, all topics welcome.

changed many people's minds last week but my friend in FL is thinking of voting for Romney. She said Obama just isn't up to the job so I'm trying to get her to vote for Gary Johnson since she's seemed not all that sure of Romney.

on the field before you know it. And since you won't have the Ducks to cheer for on Saturday, that gives you all the more energy to cheer for the Beavers who will be facing BYU without their starting QB.

By the by, word is the Sean Mannion's knee surgery went well. He should, hope hope, be back in the game before the season ends.

In the meantime, send encouraging energy to backup QB Cody Vaz, who will be appearing in his first game since 2010.

you're right I will root for the Beavers and I plan to order a couple of Beaver T shirts too so the guys at the gym can really poke fun at me.  Why are they having an NFL game, Yankees and Orioles, NBA preseason games, if you can find them, and the debate all at the same time?  Not up on QB Cody Vaz, how is he?

by caseyOR on Thu Oct 11, 2012 at 08:16:55 PM EST
Riley is the Beavers coach, so what else is he going to say?

Vaz hasn't played in a game since 2010 when he subbed for the injured Ryan Katz. He did as well as could be expected, I guess. The Beavs were 5-7 for the season that year.

So, we shall see on Saturday just what Vaz can do.

from the earlier thread, I'm not a gambler just an odds and stats watcher.

All I meant is you can't compare an 8th year stat against a 4th year stat. But I look forward to seeing where Obama is after 8 years of the presidency, because if the economy continues to move the way I think it will we'll be looking at a shoe in for Hillary to return to the White House.

An Obama loss, and I think the chances of Hillary being the first female president will be over.

    Yeah, I wouldn't want ... (none / 0) (#13)
by Yman on Thu Oct 11, 2012 at 08:12:24 PM EST
... to take that bet either, if I were you.  Of course, we can't compare an 8th year stat to an 8th year stat, we don't know if Obama's even going to get past 4 years, particularly after a performance like that last debate.  That being said, Obama's incoming approval was 67% and he's fallen to 49.8%, lower than Clinton's at this point and a much greater drop than Clinton's ... hardly an indication that Socraticsilence's opinion.  But as I said before, I'd be more than happy to compare the two after 8 years.

But I look forward to seeing where Obama is after 8 years of the presidency, because if the economy continues to move the way I think it will we'll be looking at a shoe in for Hillary to return to the White House.

I have no idea what you mean by "if the economy continues to move the way I think it will", but one of the advantages of scraping the bottom of the barrel is that it's pretty hard to keep sinking ... knock on wood.  Either way, I didn't realize Hillary's (non)candidacy was relevant to this issue.

BTW - I have been paying attention, which is precisely why I said it was scraping the bottom of the barrel.  Take off the rose-colored glasses.

I went to the University of Miami today to see the President speak. There were a handful of speakers before him but without a doubt the best of the lead-ins was Debbie Wasserman-Schultz.

Obama was hitting on all cylinders today and taking Mitt to the cleaners before a crowd of 9,200.

Thankfully we had a cold front go through and it was only in the mid 80's as the line went for over a quarter mile waiting to get past security. An early 20's female in front of me started to shake after about an hour in line, fainted and hit the ground. Fire rescue was there in seconds and once she was able to get up, said she was fine and going in to hear the speech. She wouldn't let them take her out of the line.

    Love Wasserman-Schultz. (5.00 / 1) (#20)

to broaden his goals, more of a Democratic appeal than simply a Presidential one.

First, Obama leading a group projects strength, more so than being the "Lone Ranger." Second, it's a philosophy he's selling, not personal ambition. I think he could parlay the Wingers' well known obstructionism into a Team Effort.

And, finally, Rove, and the Super pacs are drowning local elections in money, both for Congress, and the Judiciary. Also, some of the House and Senate races are really getting interesting. How about Democrat, Richard Carmona, pulling even with Flake in Arizona? The Cook Political Report is now calling the race a "toss-up." Wouldn't that be sweet; The Neanderthal Mutant, Jon Kyl, being replaced by a Democrat.....in Arizona, of all places.

    Those are always fun.

(that's what you get for getting old : - )

The eye doctor will soon show you how the retina is an excellent torture target when they have to light up the inside of the eyeball at a level just a few candlepower lower than thermonuclear in order to see what's going on in there.

Probably the vitreous thingie shrank a little and ripped a blood vessel in the process which means a nice deep dark red floater.

And since the brain takes in the info from the eye and does pattern matching, everytime you turn your head you'll think your house is having an explosion of mice or roaches for a while.

Or if you're outdoors, you'll be swatting away flying insects that aren't there.

Hope it's nothing serious and clears up soon.

    The EU?  Really?

Now they're just making up reasons to take a shot at America while their political system falls apart.

    Pathetic is too kind.
