Report: Many Missing From CIA Prisons or Guantanamo

Human Rights Watch issued a 50 page report yesterday on missing prisoners from secret CIA prisons or Guantanamo, most of whom are unaccounted for after flights on Ghost Air.

"President Bush told us that the last 14 CIA prisoners were sent to Guantanamo, but there are many other prisoners 'disappeared' by the CIA whose fate is still unknown," said Joanne Mariner, terrorism and counter-terrorism director at Human Rights Watch. "The question is: What happened to these people and where are they now?"

HRW noted that in September 2006, 14 detainees were moved from secret CIA jails to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. On Sept. 6, U.S. President George W. Bush said that following that move, there were no more captives in secret CIA installations.

However, HRW said it had two lists of former detainees who were still missing and that it had sent their names to the U.S. president.

President Bush must provide a full accounting of those seized, held and transferred. Nothing less is acceptable.

HRW said some of the missing detainees may have been "transferred from CIA custody to places where they may face torture. A serious concern is that some of the missing prisoners might have been returned to their countries of origin, which include Algeria, Egypt, Libya and Syria, where the torture of terrorism suspects is common."

    These government officials are the same a*sclowns who (a) lost the largest cash shipment in the history of the Federal Reserve when they gave it to some guy named Ali or Apu or Abu or something, without asking for a receipt, dumping it from helicopters in the middle of the night, under a streetlight, in a parking lot in Jersey - oops, some burg in Iraq, (b) lost an entire city and an unknown number of citizens(even though all the warnings were in place and it was all over the TV)*, and (c) lost two or three wars at the same time (depending upon whether one counts Iraq as The Central Front In The Wah On Terrah or not), and (d) lost 'Murca's good name and standing in the world.

    So, why should we be surprised when they lose a couple darker-skinned captives?  "Wastage", I think they called it on the ships traversing the Middle Passage.  Conservatives and states' rightsers know all about that, I'm sure.

    Where is Pelosi, Reid, Clinton, Obama, and other Dem leaders to show leadership and demand answers. They can scream from the mountaintop now that they have power. Hold up funds for everything until you get answers...Do your frickin jobs...

    as we know, bush will hold himself accountable to no one... unless and until he and darth are frog-marched out of the white house, we can expect to see continued deterioration of the very fabric of the country...

    And, yes, I DO take it personally

    ...we do all the really nasty stuff out of the public's view.

    Besides, what's unusual about bush ordering someone kidnapped, tortured, or ordering the extra-judicial killing of anyone he desires?

    It's the new "'Murkin Way," everyone in the world knows that.
