Crime Happens...Even to the Bush Family

Having your own Secret Service detail is no assurance of crime prevention as Bush daughter Barbara learned in Argentina this week:

First Daughter Barbara Bush had her purse and cell phone stolen as she had dinner in a restaurant in Buenos Aires, Argentina, even though she was being guarded by a detail of Secret Service agents, according to law enforcement reports made available to ABC News.

One of the Secret Service agents, in a separate incident, got mugged.

A Secret Service agent on the advance detail got into an "altercation" with someone after a night out and was badly beaten, according to the law enforcement reports. The Secret Service said today the incident was an attempted mugging that occurred while the agent was on his own time. The agent is doing fine.

Not only that, but in Honolulu, the Acting Director of the White House travel office was robbed in a nightclub.

He was knocked down, punched, kicked -- his wallet and id were stolen," Honolulu Police Department Capt. Frank Fujii said. Pitts' passport and international phone were also taken.

A run of the mill thief was able to penetrate the bubble surrounding our leaders and their families?...I'm shocked.

An american citizen with a gripe can't get that close.

Ironic, but with interesting ramifications, too. (none / 0) (#2)

The real problem for Bushie is not that his little darling got her purse lifted, nor that two of his folks - one a bodyguard - got mugged and beaten.  No, the problem for Bushie is that this is a huge sign of weakness.  In the world of pols and mobsters, this sort of weakness - "he can't make sure his own daughter doesn't get robbed" - shows the way for all the pols and mobsters to lose all respect for, and fear of, the capo who's failing to get it done.

Change context - what would happen if, say, Meadow Soprano's purse and cell phone were lifted while she noshed in some NYC boite?  Or, what would happen if some guy beat and mugged, say, Tony Soprano's young, dumb driver/bodyguard?

Ask Jackie Junior, OK?  He'd give a great answer if he wasn't breathing dirt.

None of that will happen to the folks who perpetrated those indignities on the family/servants of Bushie, assuming they're ever found.

That's the latest - not first - sign of the end of the Bush reign.
