Rangel: The Latest "Distraction"

The funny thing about the Media and Republicans is how little they seemed to have learned from this most recent election.

For two years they, Media and Republicans, forecast that the Democratic Party was self destructing by (1) paying attention to the blogs, (2) focusing on Iraq, (3) being harshly critical of the Bush Administration; (4) fighting against social security privatization; (5) not reaching out to "values" voters; (6) not "compromising" on choice; (7) opposing torture; (8) listening to Murtha; etc.

The elections seemed to prove them wrong to reasonable people. But here they go again:

Having been distracted from the message they wanted to convey in the wake of the midterm elections by Nancy Pelosi's bizarre decision to throw her weight behind John Murtha in his futile campaign against Steny Hoyer for the Majority Leader's position, House Democrats can be forgiven for being quite angry at Charlie Rangel for disrupting their message anew.

Oy. They never learn. Rangel's Modest Proposal, as Josh Marshall cleverly labels it, is about Iraq. There will be no draft. Because our country will not sacrifice more blood and treasure on this Debacle.

The funniest thing is the idea that Democrats might be labelled a warmongering party because of Rangel's proposal. Can you imagine that? Cutting and running and warmongering at the same time?

Sure Republicans. You go with that.

it's not about marching in lockstep, it's about accepting different points of view. That is what the hate filled, warmongering, tax cuts for the rich and screw the poor, hate gays, hate islam, hate dems rethuglican party will never understand.

    Signed up recently

First post:  As I heard today (I think it was Lawrence O'Donnell on AAR) the crux of the problem is this:  America's military is at war; America is not.  Rangel is on the right track (having just finished teaching Swift's "A Modest Proposal" this week).  It's all in the recoil.

Until all Americans invest fully in this war, we will lurch on just as we are until '08, with the burden of the grief and pain falling on the few.  Rangel's point is well taken--or should be--by thoughtful Democrats; it's all in the "Proposal," not the pudding.

Yeah, it's all quite humorous until it works. Dems better be extremely vigilant on getting their message out there or they will be crying in 2008.

Nobody on the right is labeling Rangel a warmongerer just a bafoon.

He's wrong on the draft and he's wrong on economic policy.

    That's it.

BTD - People have a tendancy to remember what you say, not what you were trying to say. So I would expect the Repubs to be sure and remind the country that the Demos tried to re-start the draft.

C'mon guys you cannot be serious. Rangel is being tongue-in-cheek because we all know that a draft will never occur because the haves will start losing their own offspring.

    Jeezlouise.

Now you want to see some stupid lawyer tricks, how about that case in New Hampshire where a (Republican) Prosecutor and a Police Chief labeled an NAACP legal chair an "extortionist," then wound up dropping all charges and both of them get drummed out of office admist ethics investigations of their own?

    Now that's a good one.

Too bad they wasted nearly 2 years of my life and untold amounts of taxpayer dollars in the process.
