He's not the most protocol-savvy president we've ever had, that's for sure. What a puppet. Don't forget to go somewhere on Sept. 24th.

The EPA says it is OK to experiment on children with pesticides ... as long as they were abused first:
The Environmental Protection Agency's new rules on human testing, which the agency said last week would categorically protect children and pregnant women from pesticide testing, include numerous exemptions, such as one that specifically allows testing of children who have been "abused and neglected."
    [...]
But within the 30 pages of rules are clear-cut exceptions that permit:

Testing of "abused or neglected" children without permission from parents or guardians.

"Ethically deficient" human research if it is considered crucial to "protect public health."

More than minimal health risk to a subject if there is a "direct benefit" to the child being tested, and the parents or guardians agree.

EPA acceptance of overseas industry studies, which often are performed in countries that have minimal or no ethical standards for testing, as long as the tests are not done directly for the EPA.

O’Reilly: The truth of the matter is our correspondents at Fox News can’t go out for a cup of coffee in Baghdad. Rice: Bill, that’s tough. It’s tough. But what — would they have wanted to have gone out for a cup of coffee when Saddam Hussein was in power? The question is: how in the hell does this administation function at all, even on the smallest levels?

Golly pat: “Rick had no idea what he was shooting, or what Bush was writing,” Hershorn said. “If Rick knew what he was writing we'd have 25 pictures of this, not two.” BTW, the proper spelling and enunciation is 'maroon'. They also used 'what an idjit', as you may feel at the moment;-)

Sailor-great link. "There was no malicious intent. That's not what we do..."There's a simple explanation, even a serious one....", Reuter's News Editor Hershorn explains. The photographer speaks:
[Rick] Wilking told Gelf magazine today that he has not yet heard from the president—whom he says he knows very well—about the note. “I’m curious to know what the White House thinks,” Wilking said.

Rove gets to dole out a couple of hundred billion for the Gulf Coast reconstruction.
President Bush has now put us on notice, the Gulf Coast reconstruction effort is going to be run as a patronage and political operation.
josh marshall and HuffPo have the 'Rove as Patronage Saint' story.' Convenient, for it is just a few weeks before Fitzgerald comes out with his Plame leak findings and/or inditements where Karl happens to be a central figures and possible target on his investigation.

"I'm not racist or anything," he said. "It's just, some people I hate, some people I don't get along with. And black people just happen to be the ones because they think they're better than everyone else." link from bobo's world (aka David Brooks' world)

From the end of the article on Squeaky's link:
"I'm a redneck," he said. "But no, I'm not racist."
Man...people are really in denial about racism.
