*Heart* for Kraft Foods

Via AmericaBlog....show some Heart for Kraft Foods for this courageous stand. Call them at 1-800-323-0768 and go buy some Mac and Cheese.

Read Kraft's letter, via Kos:

The true test of any commitment is how you respond when challenged. Kraft is experiencing this to a degree right now, as a result of our decision to be one of several contributors to the 2006 Gay Games in Chicago. The games will bring together thousands of athletes in a competition that will take place in our corporate hometown....

"It can be difficult when we are criticized. It's easy to say you support a concept or a principle when nobody objects. The real test of commitment is how one reacts when there are those who disagree. I hope you share my view that our company has taken the right stand on diversity, including its contribution to the 2006 Gay Games in Chicago."

KRAPT is owned by Phillip-Morris. Clever PR move, but the company itself is quite a bit too big to think of this as 'company policy.' It's a play for sales.

I salute Kraft's bravery for what they are doing, but it will not make me forget the fact that they are a public relations front for Phillip Morris - although to be completely accurate, while Phillip Morris tobacco still makes Marlboro, the parent organization 'Phillip Morris' was renamed 'Altria' in 2002 [remainder of anti-tobacco rant deleted as off-topic] But all this aside, Kraft is still (unfortunately) a name that people trust. And so when a company like Kraft engages in something that will support gay rights, I am happy regardless. I just wouldn't be content to eat their Mac and Cheese thinking I was doing something positive for the world.

Doing something positive for gay rights is doing something positive for the world.

TL, I support gay rights, and even more, I support non-war companies striking back against the corporations destroying our economy. Still, Kraft is not a person, and not making a broad corporate statement, either. This is playing off the appeal of the cartoon character, for kids. What do you want to bet that they had a PRE-EXISTING contract with Nickleodeon? It is pretty good inadvertent revenge on Dobson, though.

I'll have to agree with Paul on this one...and take it a step further. Phillip Morris is the parent company, the company's direction represents their values. I hope nobody here would view Clear Channel's donation to Democratic Candidates during the last election as any reflection of their values - they do more to hurt progressive values than to help them on a daily basis. Furthermore, as I've stated before, we as Progressives hate it when Corporate America influences our foreign policy, we should be steadfastly against Corporations spending money to engineer our culture. I wholeheartedly support equal rights for all Americans - and the granting of some special rights to those whose basic rights are under assault by powerful forces in society - but it has nothing to do with the manufacture of cheese.

I don't care if Kraft is fronting for Marlboro, this is a courageous decision. My plate is out to them. Mac and Cheese, the proletarian delight.
