Censoring President Marx

by TChris

Schools can't teach the value of free speech by suppressing speech. The only lesson students at El Camino Real High School have learned is that even mild cricitism of a Republican president will be met with censorship.

Theater students designed posters to advertise their play, "The Complete History of America (Abridged)," which takes a satirical view of U.S. history. The posters depicted President Bush as Groucho Marx. A student supporter of the president complained, and the principal responded by tearing down the posters.

Undaunted, the theater students -- who have a better grasp of the Constitution than their principal -- put up new posters.

The new designs all feature a silhouette of Bush and a burning cigar, along with inscriptions such as "Free Expression for All (unless you are in high school)" and "What First Amendment?"

Good for them.

I wonder what kind of picture Burning event the Principle had for Clinton Photos after the 2000 election?

There's two kinds of people these days: those who accept free speech and those who don't.

I think it is a stretch to make this something that happens only when you criticize a "republican president". Would a satire on President Clinton and Monica while the President was still in office brought a different response? (Unless you are saying that no student supporting President Clinton would have complained)

'UR 1 2' is a favorite winger deflection ploy, 'guy. Let's have your list of all the times this DID happen, during the Clinton term. Tick, tock.... While we're waiting, view this lovely photo of President Clinton, walking in a crowd of over 20,000 people, at a village in India, or this photo of BC in a huge crowd of wellwishers in any country you care to name. For that matter, view this photo of (duly-elected) John Kerry, in Philadelphia. You can't see the street, because PEOPLE in huge numbers are crowding the street for miles into the distance. Oh, here's a snap of Bush, surrounded by his thugs, at a 200-person, pre-screened, strip-searched, Town Hall Meeting at a local airbase. Oh, look, he's drooling again.

It's George Bush's world baby. Soon after George refuses to step down as president, and declares himself King George the first of the United States exercising his divine right to rule, it will immediately become a federal offense to criticize Georgie boy in anyway. All hail are imperious leader!

Something tells me Georgy-porgy would prefer the title "Dear Leader" or "Doctor General President-for life".
