While I Was Waiting

While I was waiting for Sen. Barack Obama to announce the other half of the Democratic ticket, I made a backup site for TalkLeft in case this one goes down during the convention, like it did on primary and debate nights. Also I can blog from my i-phone on it which I can't do here since Scoop isn't coded for it.

One problem: I can't figure out how to make the comment page include my sidebar. I need for the sidebar to appear on every page. Suggestions, anyone?

I guess I'll miss the momentous announcement since I'm about to leave for dinner with Jane of Firedoglake.

Here's an open thread to continue the discussion. I still don't think it will be Joe Biden, or maybe it's just wishful thinking.

Twenty-Twenty-Twenty Four Hours To Go Open Thread

Look, it's Biden. Ok. It just is. I know, Obama has not said so, but it is Biden.

I can't take it anymore -

Twenty-twenty-twenty four hours to go
I wanna be sedated
Nothin' to do and no where to go-o-oh I wanna be sedated
Just get me to the airport put me on a plane
Hurry hurry hurry before I go insane
I can't control my fingers I can't control my brain
Oh no no no no no

Friday Night News Dump Open Thread

Okay, can someone explain to me why Biden has not been announced already? Seriously.

What's the point of the timing on this?

Still Waiting, Still Bored . . . Open Thread

Will you roll Biden out already? Sheesh.

This is an Open Thread.

On CNN, a video clip is played of Hillary being asked who Obama should pick, her answer "I'm not in that arena." Then she was asked about whether she is doing enough for Obama. She said "I've done more than anyone who has ever been in my position." Hillary is out.

The pick (Joe Biden) has been told says Gloria Borger.

So the VP announcement is now officially a Friday night news dump.

Is It A VP Yet?

It's 10:30 am. Do you know where the Democratic Vice Presidential nominee is?

Post Script - Kevin Drum has moved to Mother Jones. As readers here know, I take an especial delight in disagreeing with Kevin, but he is a must read for all of us. Kevin has the quality of being able to intelligently discuss an issue without suffering from what I call "take out the cork syndrome." It comes from one of my favorite books, Umberto Eco's "Foucault's Pendulum":

For anyone who did not know that the Piedmontese expression, he would occasionally explain: "Me gavte la nata. Take out the cork." You say it to someone who is full of himself, the idea being that what causes him to swell and strut is the pressure of a cork stuck in his behind. Remove it and, phssssh, he returns to the human condition.

Forget Who, When? Open Thread

So I am tired of the guessing game and the advice (so yeah, I am tired of my posts too), just announce it already! We know he is appearing with his VP choice on Saturday in Springfield, Illinois. So sometime between now and Saturday, Obama will announce his pick. So here is the new game - WHEN will Obama send the famous text message? This afternoon? Tonight? Tomorrow morning? Tomorrow night? SATURDAY?

This is an Open Thread.

Wednesday Night Open Thread

It's busy around here. My Flip Mino video recorder arrived today and I'm setting it up. The e-mails related to the convention are multiplying hourly, now well in excess of 100 a day, bringing my overall e-mail count to more than 300 daily.

The logistics are a bit overwhelming. Denver is just not a walking town and while everyone keeps talking about Downtown, not everything is in what we think of as downtown, including the Pepsi Center, Invesco, and a lot of venues where events are being held. So figuring out how to travel light with equipment is a challenge. [More...]

No Olympics for me tonight, I'm watching Weeds, which has been excellent this season.

Here's an open thread, all topics welcome, just keep it civil and free of personal attacks.

Sunday Night Open Thread

Whether it's the Olympics or something else that's on your mind, here's a place to talk about it.

As I was driving around downtown Denver today, it occurred to me how small an area it really is. While 50,000 people aren't unusual for a sports game, the folks all go home afterwards. Next week, they'll be sticking around 24/7 -- especially since so many hotels are miles away. It's going to be very crowded. [More...]
