Saturday Night Open Thead: Rock Photos

You all missed a great rock and roll photo exhibit at a Denver gallery tonight. Renowned photographer and artist Lynn Goldsmith was in town for three nights exhibiting her incomparable rock and roll photos from her collections of the 70's to her new Looking Glass series, which is something you just have to experience in person.

I was there with my pal Anita, who's in Denver again this weekend, and who also is good friends with Lynn, who spends much of the year in the Aspen Valley.

Below are some photos:

Here's a photo of Cher that Lynn took in 1974.

And one of Bob Dylan (which isn't too clear because of my camera shot, not Lynn's photo)

Here's a photo of Anita and Lynn from tonight:

If you'd like to see more, and I highly recommend you do, check out Lynn's website, or her latest book, available at Amazon:

Hope your night was as much fun. This is an open thread.

    Zucchini, tomatoes ,eggplants and pepper (5.00 / 1) (#2)

It's that time of summer. The first zucchini, the first tomato the first eggplant but waiting for the first pepper.  My basil is ready.  Life is good.  Waiting for the first ratatouille of the season.  Before Pixar, some people really lived for the first summer ratatouille.

cukes, turnips, beets, large head of lettuce, thai basil and gosh, I can't remember what else! from my farm share. We haven't seen tomatoes yet or eggplants, but I'm ready when they arrive!

Started my indoor container/vertical garden today. Carrots, peppers, beans, peas, cherry tomatoes, spinach, scallions, and 3 types of lettuce (off the top of my head!). Also, an even dozen on the herb front.

Berries are starting to bust out all over the place here, so making syrups and freezing whole like a fool. LOVES me some berries!!! Made lemon blueberry bread also.

    farm/garden fresh produce rocks  ;)

I need to do some serious canning and freezing tomorrow! The fridge and counters are just bustin' out! Next week I get another fruit share with the produce and the week after, more chickens.

Here's hoping my kitchen/apt garden plan works! (and the cats don't get too crafty with my safety net!)

We went riding again early today.  I am improving.  I only killed it once and only wrecked once.  Some great views of the ocean.  We saw a bear and a deer.  Stopped at different creeks and listened... an owl was hooting.

Tomorrow we are going hiking on some forest trails with some friends that are moving back to Colorado.

    From C & L
McCain insisted that "we have succeeded" in Iraq. In fact, he said it multiple times: "I am happy to stand in front of you to tell you that this strategy has succeeded. It has succeeded. It has succeeded."

    [snip]

McCain added on the campaign bus: "I repeat my statement that we have succeeded in Iraq -- not we are succeeding -- we have succeeded in Iraq."

    [snip]

Can we get out of Iraq, then? Apparently not: "The success that we have achieved is still fragile and could be reversed."

Obama flip flops again with Jerusalem (none / 0) (#19)
by stefystef on Sun Jul 20, 2008 at 05:59:50 AM EST
Obama said that Jerusalem would be the undivided capital of Israel.  This upset the Palestinians.  So now he's saying that it was "bad wording in a speech" (gee, he's been saying that alot lately).

Also he has removed any mention about the surge not working from his website, indicating that he's about to change on that too.  I hope the progressive left are  happy with Obama now.

Wonder how much more they can cover for him as he keeps moving away from them.

P.S. LOVE the picture of Cher.  Cher has always been a class act.

Lynn looks too young to have been taking pictures of Cher in 1974.  Was she all of 12 at the time?

    The Dark Knight (none / 0) (#21)
by JimWash08 on Sun Jul 20, 2008 at 06:29:52 AM EST
Has anyone watched it yet on this Opening weekend?

The Dark Knight seems to be THE film of Summer-08 and a blockbuster in every sense of the word. It hauled more than $66 million on its first day of release in the U.S. -- of which, $18 million came from just midnight showings nationwide. It's already set off buzz of a posthumous Oscar nom. and win for Heath Ledger too.

I'm a huge fan of film scores, and the soundtrack for T.D.K. -- composed by Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard -- is just amazing. Haunting, exciting, breath-taking and epic.

Any non-spoilerish reviews and comments would be appreciated. I'll hopefully catch it on Wednesday (a half work-day for me) when the lines will likely be shorter at my favorite theater.

...is that my 19-year-old son went to see it on Friday (drove a long way to go to a theater that wasn't too full) and when he got back home he wanted to turn around and see it again! So take that for what its worth.

I've heard a lot of people feel the same way as your son did -- wanting to watch it again, either the same day or the next day.

    I can't really think of a better endorsement - repeat viewings. :)

I guess the last films like that were "The Passion of the Christ" and "Titanic." And they were both mega-earners at the box office too, like TDK.

I had forgotten how young and beautiful some of these people were. I saw Cher (and Sonny) at the L.A. Teen Fair in the 60's, before they hit it mega big. They were just on a small round platform singing and the crowd just stepped around them. They were fabulous!!!!
