Friday Night Open Thread

You know, I have to say that I have been pretty pleased with the Change President-elect Obama has been delivering so far. Indeed, since dropping the Post Partisan Unity Schtick since the Democratic Convention, I have had virtually nothing to complain about. Except one thing - John Brennan. But I am quite pleased to see that the Left blogs have refound their voice and have universally expressed their concerns about Brennan.

[Let me add good for my friend David Sirota for expressing his unhappiness that he is NOT getting the CHANGE he wants.]

It would be asking too much of me to not note that I was "the moron" who was one of the first to voice concerns about Brennan.

Late Night Open Thread

Dr. Pepper promised to give a free soda to everyone in America if the Guns & Roses album "Chinese Democracy" (delayed since 1994) saw a 2008 release. It goes on sale Sunday and is streaming on MySpace now.

Beginning Sunday at 12:01 a.m., coupons for a free 20-ounce soda will be available for 24 hours on Dr Pepper's Web site. They'll be honored until Feb. 28.

I'm more of a Pepsi guy, so my coupon is up for grabs.

Who Writes A Blog? Who Can Read It?

Susie Madrak and Anglachel point to two funny "blog analyzer" tools. One attempts to determine whether you can tell if a blog is written by a man or a woman. Here is the TalkLeft result:

We guess http://talkleft.com is written by a man (51%), however it's quite gender neutral.

The other is a readability analyzer. Here is TalkLeft's result:

This blog's reading level: High School

Not sure if that is good or bad.

Thursday Morning Open Thread

I've yakked enough. TChris and J, schedules permitting, will surely follow with some interesting posts on criminal law and politics.

For now, it is your turn.

One last thing, CA Pol Junkie apparently has some gizmo that projects the result of the MN Sen recount based on returns as they come in. Right now, with 18% recounted, he projects Coleman winning the recount by 21 votes. But the trend is our friend I think.

Blogging Reminder and Update

I'm getting a lot of emails wondering if TalkLeft is changing to political coverage from crime and injustice and civil liberties blogging.

The answer is No. TChris and I cover these issues and I am not blogging for a week or so as I explained here and here. TChris is blogging as usual and he and Big Tent Democrat, who blogs about politics, have graciously been keeping the site moving in my temporary absence.

I'll be back in a few days. There's no need to send me nasty e-mails about how you are removing TL from your feed reader because there's no crime news here. There is, you just have to scroll down, and I will be back when I'm caught up in the real world.

This is an open thread on blog related issues.

Monday Afternoon Open Thread

I'm just coming up for air since my recent robbery. Four days and it's still a logistical mess. I won't be blogging for a few more days as I need to get back to my real job first.

My burglar alarm system is just about ready and yes, I got an insurance policy.

Two big questions now: Among other things, I have to replace my Sony laptop and my Macbook. The Macbook is not a problem, but the PC is. I can't figure out whether to get 64 bit or 32 bit, whether to get Visa Home Premium or Ultimate, and whether to get a 5400 or 7200 hard drive. I don't need business network capability but I want it to be fast for word processing and internet stuff and getting through dvd-roms of discovery, including audio and video files. Is it too soon to get a 64 bit machine because older programs won't work with it? Are there other considerations I've missed and does anyone have a new laptop they just love? The two I'm liking the best so far are the Sony SR series and the Dell XPS M1330.

Sunday Talk Open Thread

Tell us what they are yakking about (Hillary at State). I'll be back this evening hopefully.

Oh by the way, how about them Gators?!

One last thing, here is Glenn Greenwald concern trolling again on John Brennan. (I am joking about the concern trollling. I was attacked last week by the Obama Bots for voicing the same concerns.)
