Saturday Open Thread

What's on your mind today? I'm making my way through thousands of pages of discovery, and later, once the snow has melted, going out to do some jail visits.

I see an arrest is imminent in the Chandra Levy case.

All topics welcome here.

Friday Funnies and Open Thread

This came by e-mail today. See if it makes you laugh. If not, what do you find funny these days?

A DEA officer stops at a ranch in Montana , and talks with an old rancher. He tells the rancher, 'I need to inspect your ranch for illegally grown drugs.'

The old rancher says, 'Okay, but do not go in that field over there' as he points out the location.

The DEA officer verbally explodes saying, 'Mister, I have the authority of the Federal Government with me.' Reaching into his rear pants pocket, he removes his badge and proudly displays it to the farmer. 'See this badge? This badge means I am allowed to go wherever I wish ...on any land. No questions asked or answers given. Have I made myself clear? Do you understand?'

Late Night: Meatloaf

I've had Meatloaf on the brain trying to follow all the latest goings-on with what some people are alleging ABC is going to pull with the finale of The Bachelor. (Warning: big, make that huge spoiler alert, so don't click on the link if you want to be surprised.) ABC may have some 'splaining to do. Right now they've unleashed a Bat Out of Hell on the internets.

On American Idol tonight, Tatiana went home, Danny Gokey, Alexis Grace and Michael Sarver got to stay.

Presidents Day Open Thread

Today is Presidents Day. The Presidents honored are Washington and Lincoln, surely two of our greatest. FDR was born on January 30, close enough I think to add to this day's celebration. Anyway, I think so.

Also, today is the 105th anniversary of the birth of George Kennan.

What Some Folks With Blogs Think

Jeralyn has passed the TalkLeft torch to me on responding for National Journal's blogger poll.

Two questions were presented this week. The first:

Have events of recent weeks made you more encouraged or less encouraged about prospects for bipartisanship this year on major issues that Congress has yet to tackle, such as health care reform and energy legislation?
