    Senate race - Jennifer Brunner (5.00 / 1) (#2)
by Fabian on Tue Feb 24, 2009 at 04:53:07 PM EST
Brunner will have an online Q&A session at 7pm (Ohio time) at the Buckeye State Blog.

Currently the major contenders in the Ohio Democratic primary are Lee Fisher - Ohio Lt Gov and Jennifer Brunner - Ohio SoS.

Jennifer Brunner has been a very welcome antidote to the highly partisan SoS Ken Blackwell(R).  While I am excited for her bid for Voinovich's Senate seat, I really would miss her as SoS.

still a long dance to get to the point where the Obama camp aggressively advocates for a mandate, though.

I suppose one difference between Hillary and Obama is that on this issue, there may not have been so many "trial balloons" supportive of mandates with her.  Those mandates were coming.

clearly you have to have a public Medicare-like plan that people can buy into.  Requiring people to buy insurance from a private carrier should be a non-starter.

It was my impression that the insurance cos were on board with the Universal idea and will be part of the scheme and they have been arguing that the only way they would support UH is if there were mandates.

Personally I would love to cut them out and pitch in to expanded Medicare program.

    Don't see it happening though.

The most I'm hoping for is a good compromise until we get there. They have got to do something about pre-existing issues and I'm really interested in what their version of "affordable" is. When you don't have insurance through your employer, very little of it is affordable to any middle class family.

there's some recipes out there for using winter squash as pizza sauce. They're on my list to try since we get them in our CSA share. I had pumpkin ravioli a bit back and just drizzled olive oil and herbs on it. I did a bit of cheese on top, but it would have been fine without :)

some fantastic pizza's without red sauce or cheese. My daughter and her husband go to an annual b-b-q'd pizza fest where the pizzas are all gourmet (interesting variety of toppings) and baked on a clay slab inside a b-b-q kettle. Personally, I think the newer varieties of pizza are much better than those former piled high with toppings and thick crusts.

    This really isn't very good.

In fact it's an unmitigated disaster.

To think that Social Security may be on treacherous ground with a Democrat in the White House an overwhelming Democratic majority in both the House and the Senate is a genuine nightmare.

Read Jane Hamsher's post about Monday's Fiscal Responsibility summit.

Note also the eviseration of Congress and the empowering of the Republicans to hide responsibility for destroying entitlements.

    Transparency indeed, accountability indeed.

This is not what the American people voted for in November.

This is consequence of nominating a man of no conviction and a vague message. This is the consequence of thoughtless, slavish hero worship.

notice this line from Obama's speech:

To preserve our long-term fiscal health, we must also address the growing costs in Medicare and Social Security. Comprehensive health care reform is the best way to strengthen Medicare for years to come. And we must also begin a conversation on how to do the same for Social Security, while creating tax-free universal savings accounts for all Americans.

And another post from Jane Hamsher on the evasiveness of Robert Gibbs when questioned about Social Security.

Gibbs ducks and slides every question.  But his response to Helen Thomas is the most telling.

hundreds of thousands of your neediest? Washington is.

Don't know what to make of it, but it certainly seems to me that if they don't have to cash or deposit the check to receive an increase in food stamp allocation, then what was the reasoning behind spending $250,000 to get those checks out to people? They know who needs the help, obviously...so, sign them up for the extra $30 a month in food stamps!

Must everything require a circus act?

George Lakoff about the Code? (none / 0) (#27)
by joze46 on Tue Feb 24, 2009 at 07:14:55 PM EST
Maybe a little off topic but I think some here talked about George Lakoff in his new book. Though I have not read his newest book about the Obama Code?

If you read George Lakoff's book "Whose Freedom" one does gain an understanding the concept in framing an issue. It helped me cope with hate radio people. Especially understanding, Michael Savage, Limbaugh, Hannity, or cable types like Mathews, and Andre Mitchell's methods of persuasion. They are professionals that clearly know the ropes in verbal contextual bait and switch.

It's interesting that Lakoff is calling this the Obama "Code" and the way some here characterize it. It was very funny to think of it as a, decode, like for deciphering hieroglyphics. But it's not with a giggle and a laugh it is not a decode sheet of some sort that will find the well of souls.

For me it sounds like that type of code that is the "rule of political level invariants" you know an unwritten law. You know how politicals lie, walk around giving speeches, getting paid big bucks. Its more like in that pirate movie to "Parlay" to honor the code. For heaven sakes America is buying into this stuff called "ear marks" that to me are nothing more than manufactured public media circus fodder.

Sort of like if you don't pass this bill it will be sensationalized on cable for weeks and juggle jabbered by Journalist till out rage occurs and total confusion take to the limit of exhaustion till it just passes because of huge argued fatigue to go away.

If Obama pulls this off he will command big bucks for future speeches, he figured the code and knows how to shift gears on the Republicans. They the Republicans look tired. They can not match him. No one at that summit expressed the confidence and direction Obama messaged.

I voted for Obama and think he is good very good, just hope he will address this corruption in banking and war crimes.... Please president Obama you might have to call out some political associates.

Looks like Kellog in order to appeal to drug warriors made a mistake in punishing Phelps for being photographed smoking a bong.

Everyone knows that Drug warriors eat pork and eggs for breakfast anyway and that stoners binge on corn flakes.

Morons, and now they are hurting due to the boycott.

    Stock down and reputation trashed.

Out of the 5,600 company reputations Vanno monitors, Kellogg ranked ninth before it booted Phelps. Now it's ranked 83. Not even an industry-wide peanut scare inflicted as much damage on the food company's reputation.
