Monday Afternoon Open Thread

Did you catch the end of the Michigan State-Maryland game yesterday? Unbelievable. I now predict a Kentucky (original pick) - Syracuse (new pick to replace bounced Kansas) final with Kentucky (original pick) winning it all.

Sunday Afternoon Open Thread: Stupak Deal is On the Table

The House is debating the health care bill. If you're a rules buff, you can follow along on the House twitter feed, where you'll see lots of references to things being "laid on the table," which always reminds me of Cream and "Badge":

Thinkin' 'bout the times you drove in my car.

Thinkin' that I might have drove you too far.

And I'm thinkin' 'bout the love that you laid on my table.

I wonder if anyone in the House has a kid who is married to Mabel. On a more substantive note, FDL is live-blogging the debate.

Update: There's a deal with Stupak. He'll hold a press conference at 4pm ET and announce he's voting for the bill. C-Span will stream live. Republicans on Twitter sound pissed, they're calling him a traitor.

March Madness, Day 2

Exciting day yesterday. Bad day for me as my Gators lost in 2OT and my bracket lay in ruins at the end of the day.

We strive forward anyway. My picks today's day games - Siena, Mizzou, Texas A&M, Pitt, Xavier, Temple and Wisconsin. Those are my win picks. As betting propositions, I have different selections but that is too complicated to describe here.

Wednesday Night Open Thread

Sandra Bullock's perfect marriage may not be so perfect. (I'm always skeptical of those award speeches where the winner goes on and on about how great their spouse is.) It was just in January, at the Screen Actor Guild Awards, she said:

“And to my husband, Jesse, who works so hard all day, and you get dressed up in monkey suits, and you sit at a table with people you don’t know. And I leave you there and then you come back with, like, Morgan Freeman’s email. I don’t know how you do it. I love you so much, and you’re really hot. And I want you so much.”

Who's going home tonight on American Idol? (No spoilers please till it's aired on the West Coast.) I texted my vote last night to keep Crystal Bowersox and Casey James. They all pretty much butchered the Rolling Stones. They should have re-watched Adam Lambert last year performing Satisfaction.

Tuesday Night Open Thread

It's Rolling Stones week for the final 12 on American Idol tonight.

A new Idol stage will be revealed and America’s Top 12 – Didi Benami, Crystal Bowersox, Lacey Brown, Lee Dewyze, Andrew Garcia, Casey James, Aaron Kelly, Michael Lynche, Siobhan Magnus, Paige Miles, Katie Stevens, and Tim Urban – will perform songs by The Rolling Stones.

It's 65 degrees here. The TL kid and I are firing up the barbecue to grill some steaks while we watch AI. The sun was so bright today it was 75 degrees inside when I got home -- I had to turn the air conditioning on to cool it down.

I'm off to the jail in the foothills -- it's right before the Eisenhower tunnel. Should be a beautiful drive, I'm looking forward to it.

I've spent way too much time on Rielle Hunter and John Edwards and need to get back to work. BTD has also been very busy.

Sunday Accomplishments and Open Thread

Configuring networks and routers has always been an impossibility for me. No matter how closely I follow the directions, I always mess it up.

This morning, my laptop said I needed to upgrade the driver on my wireless connection. After I did, I couldn't get online. The network only showed limited access instead of local and internet. I was about to go to Office Depot and buy a new router when I thought I'd try one last time to play with the old one. I put the disk in my desktop (which is connected by ethernet cable).

Three hours later, I'm done. I have a new network and not only does my desktop and laptop recognize it, but so does my iPhone and iPod (they never recognized the old network.) [More...]
