It doesn't happen often, but this is another week that both BTD and I are locked into our day jobs. BTD has depositions all week, and I've spent the past 96 hours straight (with a few for shut-eye) reviewing and re-reviewing 15,000 pages of wiretap applications and orders, and 19,000 intercepted telephone calls to draft motions to suppress. The last was filed at midnight. There are 22 defendants in the case which means all their motions have to be read as well, and then a seocnd set of motions filed adopting the grounds in their motions that might fit my client.
So BTD is in depositions Tuesday, Weds. and Thurs. and traveling Friday, and I'm going to be in time-out today so I can shake all the details out of my head and move on to the next case for a while.
What this means for you, is a lot of open threads this week and fewer blog posts by me unless they are related to a topic I am very interested in: which means criminal cases, celebrity illnesses (I'm still sending good thoughts to Bret Michaels)and trying to maintain my sanity.
I hope you are having a more relaxed week than BTD and I are. Which is why, we'd like you all to take over in the open threads.
Thanks everyone, and I'll be back as soon my eyes lose their blurriness from reading so many documents, and I can focus on something other than what's right in front of me. Hope you understand.

Via Digby, the conservative Arizona Republic editorializes:
[Arizona Gov.] Brewer's televised signing ceremony for this harsh, unnecessary legislation constitutes the low point of an administration we have come to admire for its often surprising grit in the face of hard times. We held out hope for more.
Whether Arizona pays a price for indulging the whims of state Sen. Russell Pearce, R-Mesa, is no longer the issue. We are paying a price. Not since the dismal days of our nationally infamous fight over a holiday to honor the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., has the profile of Arizona descended this low.
(Emphasis supplied.) Meanwhile, Lindsey Graham is upset that Democrats want to take up immigration reform. If there was ever a doubt that Republicans loathe Latinos, this removes it.

Boycott Arizona! What a Boycott Can Mean:
In 1982, President Reagan signed a bill making Martin Luther King Jr. Day a federal holiday, but it wasn’t until almost a decade later that Arizona finally recognized it. In the meantime, the state lost NFL support and Super Bowl XXVII. The game — and the economic boost that comes with a Super Bowl — was to have been held at Tempe’s Sun Devil Stadium in 1993, but was moved to California to protest the state’s failure to recognize the holiday honoring the slain civil rights leader.
No Super Bowls for Arizona. The Fiesta Bowl out of the BCS in the next negotiations. This can be effective pressure.

Boycott Arizona. Here's a list of the state's House and Senate members. Here are the Senate sponsors of S.B. 1070. Here are the Senators who voted for and against it. Arizona needs 17 people to run against them, or if the deadline has passed, to campaign for their opponents.
The Arizona House passed the bill on April 13. Here's the list of Arizona House members. Here's how the House members voted. 35 House members need to be replaced in November.
Tonight on TV: A new episode of "Breaking Bad," Celebrity Apprentice, the Pacific, Desperate Housewives and Brothers and Sisters. It will be sad to watch Bret Michaels, knowing he is still in intensive care in critical condition. Since the show is taped, I hope tonight isn't the episode where he gets fired. Send good thoughts his way.

Yanks and Rays off to a fast start in the AL East. The Padres have won 8 straight and lead the NL West.
9 Gators were chosen in the NFL Draft, the most from any school.
The Celtics will put the Heat out of their misery today (where will Wade play next year? He has to be upset with the lack of support.) The Bulls try to scare the Cavs and even their series today (as Durant and the Thunder did to the Lakers last night.) As expected the series in the West have been very competitive. The Mavs play for their season tonight in San Antonio, the Blazers have tied the Suns and the Jazz lead the Nuggets.
In cycling, returning from his 2 year suspension, Vino wins his second L-B-L on a podium that included Valverde. The anti-doping movement takes a hit today I think. As does Johan Bruyneel.

HBO debuts "You Don't Know Jack" , Barry Levinson's film about Jack Kevorkian, starring Al Pacino, John Goodman, Susan Sarandon and Brenda Vaccaro tonight. Danny Huston plays Kevorkian lawyer Jeff Fieger.
Sen. Lindsay Graham is up to old tricks. Now he's pulling support for the Climate bill because the Dems want to act on immigration.

Bill Belichick has decided to draft every available Florida Gator. Good move. (Kidding aside, Hernandez in the 4th was a steal. He'll catch 60 balls from Brady next year. Gronkowski (NE's 2nd round pick) won't see the field ahead of Hernandez imo.)
Can the Bulls even their series with the King? I'll be watching this afternoon to see. (No I won't. Game is tomorrow.)
Tomorrow is the Liege-Bastogne-Liege cycling race. I'm going to go with Andy Schleck to repeat.

Think good thoughts for Bret Michaels, who is in ICU after suffering a massive brain hemorrhage today.
TMZ reports he's awake and talking. The next few days will be critical.
Here's the original video to the song, what a classic.

For some reason, the comments got really ugly here today. I've read and cleaned two threads, but am turning my attention now to other things...like Survivor and Nurse Jackie. Please stop attacking each other.

If you missed last night's finale of Damages, it was very bloody but tied up all the loose ends. I hate cliff-hangers used as a lure for the next season, and this didn't have any. Also, no ambiguities like the Sopranos. On the other hand, it may be the last season, unless a deal comes along to save it. "24" was really good, and now only 6 hours left.
Tonight will probably see Kate Gosselin (finally) go home on DWTS. And the 7 remaining contestants sing on American Idol.
