The Many Travails of Jared Kushner

According to many media reports, Jared Kushner's role in setting White House policy may be ending. Mueller's investigation into Russia's meddling in the 2016 election is broadening, and according to media sources and some who have been questioned by Mueller, the interest in Kushner's finances and whether there have been conflicts of interest is growing.

Vox has a good article summing up all Jared's travails, with source links. The New York Times added another yesterday.

There have been reports even Trump wants Jared and Ivanka to return to NY.

Mueller seems to be questioning everyone. I wonder where it will end for Jared: will he be cleared? Will he take a pre-indictment plea to some lesser charge and agree to cooperate against other Mueller targets, or will he hold on, and fight?

    Josh Marshall: It's worse than we thought. (5.00 / 3) (#2)

"The most stunning revelation ties to Kushner's already known role recklessly allying himself with the Gulf states trying to isolate and effectively blockade Qatar. The conflict between UAE and Saudi Arabia and Qatar is complicated and its particulars don't concern us here. But it was a high-stakes, reckless gambit which could have and still might lead to a major war between various US-allied states in the Gulf. We don't know enough to make any firm statements yet. But we've seen enough in the last week to make it seem plausible that Kushner's aggressive, enabling behavior in that crisis was tied to his efforts to get money to bail out his family company. If that is true - and I suspect it is - it would amount to a level of corruption entirely unparalleled in American history."

Apparently, Kushner's father approached the Qatari government in April 2016 to bail out the family's white elephant investment at New York's 666 5th Ave. When the Qataris declined to do so, Jared used his leverage with his father-in-law to get the U.S. to support a blockade of the small Persian Gulf state by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

If that's true, both Jared and Trump are in very big trouble.

    Qatar hosts a forward Centcom base (5.00 / 1) (#3)

We have had a strategically devastating if hit number of our military leaders meeting in Qatar at different times, and they've allowed us whatever security measures we needed.

It was shocking that we were part of a Qatar blockade out of nowhere. And now we know why. I remember that Trump didn't even understand our Qatar alliance when the blockade began. He didn't know what Centcom was either.

He has not been questioned because he has "taken the 5th"

I doubt he flips.  I think he is  a primary target
