Tom Price Resigns as Head of HHS

Trump cabinet member Tom Price has resigned as director of Health and Human Services. FlightGate proved too much.

The work-related travel, which was first reported Sept. 19 by Politico, cost taxpayers nearly $1 million, or about $400,000 for private charters and $500,000 in military airplane costs. Most of the trips were between cities where inexpensive commercial flights were also available. The revelations had sparked a flurry of criticism from government ethics watchdogs.

For now Trump will stick with a deputy assistant director as acting secretary:

The White House said that Trump intends to designate Don Wright, currently the deputy assistant director for health and director of the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion at HHS, as acting secretary.

Will Trump's next replacement be any better than Price? I doubt it.

    Trump ushering in the kakistocracy: (5.00 / 1) (#1)

a system of government which is run by the worst, least qualified, or most unscrupulous citizens.

It's only going to get worse from here.

    Price just did not (5.00 / 1) (#2)

live up to the exacting ethical standards of Trump. Price, the fiscal conservative who fought hard to reduce government spending and waste while in the House, just misread the grifter green light, that is applicable to the Trump family.

But, then, he did let Trump and all Republicans know about his fluid ethical standards during confirmation hearings....in those health care stock trades, and the sweetheart deal from a medical device maker days before writing legislation that would ease pesky regulations.

    Scott Pruitt (5.00 / 3) (#7)

How about dumping Environmental Destruction Agency chief, the disgusting Scott Pruitt, who has an eighteen man 24/7 security team when the agency is about to undergo giant cuts.  I get nauseous even just looking at pictures of these clowns.

are more of these "best people" waiting in the wings.  And, it is never so bad that it can't get worse in a Trump Administration.  Santorum is no doubt ready to take Price's job, and after that bang up job on Graham/Cassidy, he may be just what Trump is looking for.

I forgot his name when commenting before.

    The 25,000 "privacy booth".

When they already had one but he had to go to another floor.  Poor thing.  I always want my privacy booth handy.

The reason these stories will not go away is because a.) There are so many including the Borgias, um I mean the Trumps.  One story yesterday was about the 300,000 the Trump kids ski trip cost.  And b.) This is the kind if thing Trumps base hate most and understand.

to get the heave-ho, they're going to have to fail Trump in some similar kind of way: not get some major legislation passed (Mnuchin will be in peril if he can't get the tax cuts through), or if they knock Trump off his perch of Grifter-in-Chief.  As much grifting as Trump does, he won't take a back seat to anyone. I think Trump sees his own life of perks and privilege as completely normal - others whom he sees as in his employ? not so much.

I have to say that I think Mnuchin may be next if Trump sees him as a stumbling block to getting Trump's beautiful-and-biggest tax cut in history over the finish line. Keep an eye on the markets: if the markets get nervous that the tax legislation they've been waiting for isn't going to pass, and all that market rise Trump thinks is all about him starts to head down, Mnuchin's job will be on life support.

    I think others may go (5.00 / 2) (#11)

Because Trump is obsessed with news coverage and it's all going to be about the lifestyles of the rich and famous living high on the taxpayers dime.

And that goes right back to him.  They may get he is rich and lives rich.  What they may also,IMO, eventually get is that not only is he not spending his own money but he is soaking us for hotel bills and golf carts for his posse.

Trump was going to be great because he has his own money.  He "already HAS a plane".  He can't be bought. He is gonna drain the swamp. I can't tell you how many times I heard variations of this.

This is not what they voted for.  It can't be denied because he just fired Price for it.  If it's real with Price, it's real for the rest.  This is going to go on and on and eventually I really believe some of that 35% is going to start to get it.

But I'm an optimist at heart.

getting the fact that they have been conned but are not gonna publicly admit it yet at least and are still defending him. There is a reason why all the conservatives are only talking about the NFL these days. Talk about the NFL therefore we don't have to talk about all the other garbage Trump has been doing.

has been awful forever. He was my congressional rep at one time. How he acted in the Trump Administration is nothing new. I know someone who had a daughter who couldn't go to school because of diabetes and no nurse at the school. She called Tom Price and he basically blew her off. That is how he treated everyone in the district. But needless to say the idiots in my district kept voting for him. I'm glad he's out but I darn sure hope he doesn't come back to GA and attempt to run for something.
