A quick hit with just the picks:

Group D - Belo Horizonte, Costa Rica vs. England, Over 2½ Goals. Gun to my head, I pick England, burt I'm not wagering on that.

Group C - Cuiabá, Japan vs. Colombia, Draw +280

Group C - Fortaleza, Greece vs. Ivory Coast, Over 2. I'm trying to talk myself into Greece, but the price is too short. Only +(285), needs to get above 300.

The game to watch of course is Uruguay-Italy. Group D - Natal. I'm taking the Suarezes Pick.

    ... and asinine sanction the Italians incurred, when Claudio Marchisio got himself red-carded. All they needed was a draw to move on, but talk about not playing smart in the clutch! They deserve to be packing for Rome.

    FIFA can confirm that disciplinary proceedings have been opened against the player Luis Suarez of Uruguay following an apparent breach of art. 48 and/or art. 57 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code during the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil<sup>TM</sup> match Italy-Uruguay played on 24 June 2014. The player and/or the Uruguayan FA are invited to provide with their position and any documentary evidence they deem relevant until 25 June 2014, 5pm, Brasilia time.

    The rules call for a suspension from anywhere from 2 games to 2 years. I suspect it will be between 15 games and 2 years.

    And both Suarez and the Uruguayan coach made a$$es of themselves in the postgame press conference which won't help their cause.

    Trying to imagine if this happened in the NFL.  Always thought those face guards were for protection.  Maybe they have another purpose.

    I bit a guy many years ago playing rec league rough touch football...but feel I was justified in self defense.

    I ran a long comeback and caught the ball, dude comes up from behind and wraps me in a bear hug, drags me down, and for some strange reason won't let go.  Dude was way stronger than me and instinct took over to break the bear hug...I chomped down on his forearm.  It worked.

    It's awful to remember threatening my brother by showing him my teeth.  What a horrid sister.  My mother tried to reason with me but gave up and just bit the hell out of me one day and I quit....that day

    Obviously Mr. Suarez was allowed to grow into a brat.  He should have gotten over preschool biting a long time ago.  Obviously his mother did not bite him back :)

    Suarez and Cavani will break the ballyhooed Italian defense...there's no stopping the new world in 2014.

    I have a strong feeling a nation that has never won the WC before will win it this year.

    And who would that winner be, kdog?  (From your mouth to God's ears, I know!)  

    Now, it has been quite awhile since Uruguay won the title ... the famous (or, if you are from Brasilia, the infamous) 1950 upset.  In my own way, I like Uruguay.  Several years ago, my husband & I had the good fortune to be in Montevideo for a short time ... tho, I was so thrilled to witness a close-up tango in a salon, the biggest surprise was the trip to the soccer stadium.  The guide talked in special tones about Uruguay and soccer; people visiting seemed to treat it like a shrine.  Anyway--loved the place and the experience and wished my Dad could have realized a wish to visit there and (get this) tango.  So ... I like Uruguay in soccer. (Bites and all.)

    Van Batman & Robben, they might just shock the worls and bring North America its first cup.

    And with the effort our boys displayed against Portugal, I think we can play with anybody if we can get past our last group stage match against Germany.
