World Cup Day 8

It's been a pretty exciting World Cup so far. There has been only 1 scoreless game and it may have been the most exciting one of the tournament, Mexico-Brazil. Now my account is not so excited as I went 0-2-1 yesterday dropping me to a dismal 4-12-2 so far. But hope springs eternal, though I don't really care for today's games as great betting propositions. In any event, today's picks:

Group C - Brasília, Colombia over Ivory Coast. The 2 favorites in this rather weak group. A slight lean to Colombia though I expect a tightly played game where both teams know a point suffices for them.

Game of the Day - Group D - São Paulo, Uruguay +265 over England. Suarez comes back today, claims to be 100% Not a chance in hell of that. If he is, he would have played in the first game, a devastating loss to Costa Rica. This is a mini-Group of Death with Italy as well, and with a loss to the Ticos, Uruguay has to win today, with Italy up next. For England, a draw might suffice as they face Costa Rica in their final game and a win there probably puts them through. But a loss pretty much ends it I think. Given all of the variables, I expect both teams to gun for the win and play with great abandon. England looks the better team but they always seem to blow these type of games. Should be a fine spectacle.

Group C - Natal, Japan vs. Greece, Draw +240. Both teams lost their openers, look relatively weak and not likely to challenge for advancement. But they don't think so, so they may put on a good show.

Of Colombia's first game, I liked how the Ivory Coast played so I'm going with them.

I don't see how Suarez is 100% either. He looked to be emotionally melting on the bench in the first match.  Uruguay has other strong players though too, and they just fell apart.  To make up for the lack of ability to work together they then devolved into intimidating cave man a-holes.  What a disappointment.  They have a weak defense too.  That was something my ovaries could overlook though because a great defense isn't necessary when dealing with sexy beasts.

For my ovaries though, while they last, I'll go with Uruguay one more time.  If England stomps the hello out of them though I will not be a bit shocked.  That is what often happens when I let my ovaries make decisions :)

    I think Japan over Greece

is my rooting interest for the day...send the English home in time for tea.  Maybe they can schedule a quick friendly with Spain to pass the time!

So far the New World/Western Hemisphere is 8-3-2, Old World/Eastern Hemisphere 9-14-4.  West Side!

England has a choke-job reputation to uphold!

And our friends to the south still control their own destiny...win or draw and they're in, while Croatia must win.  But Croatia is no joke...they look very strong 11 on 11, never mind 11 on 10.

3 goals in 10 minutes!  Colombia goes up to 2-Nil, but no quit in the Ivory Coast as they cut the deficit in half.  12 minutes plus stoppage to go.

    What a match!

I was pro-Colombia all the way, but at the end even I was rooting for an equalizer.  Ivory Coast left it all on the pitch...inspiring effort.

Suarez's legs may not be fitter than fit, but fit enough to score on the Brits with the dome.
