500 Inmates Break Out of Abu Ghraib

500 inmates, including many members of al Qaida have broken out of Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.

Sunni insurgents, including the al Qaeda-affiliated Islamic State of Iraq, have been regaining strength in recent months and striking on an almost daily basis against Shi'ite Muslims and security forces amongst other targets.

The violence has raised fears of a return to full-blown conflict in a country where Kurds, Shi'ite and Sunni Muslims have yet to find a stable way of sharing power.

    Democracy at Work (5.00 / 1) (#1)

It is troubling that so many USA haters just hit the streets.  We created many during our invasion of Iraq.  I cannot imagine how I would feel about losing a loved one, distant relative or neighbor by an invasion from a foreign country.

Saddam Hussein was an evil man in the eyes of many, and I did not weap at his passing, but he controlled Iraq.  He did things that we and the Western world would not even contemplate doing to keep peace and unity in a world we will never completely understand.

It may be they are not ready for a democracy.  I hope that is not the case.  Are we really out of Iraq?

All the money and all the lives? Maybe Saddam was exactly the sort of strong arm dictator they needed in Iraq to keep it from becoming another extreme Islamic state of complete chaos.  I would not argue with anyone who wanted to call him evil.  But I don't think they are better off now.  I can't help but think there was a better way and that this world would be a different place if Gore had taken office.

we can get a Republican President after Obama who can send us back into Iraq.

    I shudder at the thought.

Let's hope things don't fall apart over there.  A trillion dollars and many men and women better than I lost their lives.

and I can't see any way this won't have some effect, perhaps even long term, on the USA.

Can't NSA use this as an excuse to keep up the wide spread surveillance and defeat Amash?  Is this some kind of proof that we need to keep it?

I must be in m conspiracy mode again...
