    ... no doubt for fear of eliciting a host of sarcasm from you -- but it's certainly made quite a few rounds here at TL, particularly when discussing the Obama administration.

    And I further agree with banning the term "under the bus." It's been thrown about all too often here as well as everywhere else -- nearly as much as your stereotypical classic rock station plays Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven," an otherwise amazing song that unfortunately reached a saturation point with me long ago. Now, whenever I hear Jimmy Page's first few distinctive chords, I automatically tune out and change the station because I've developed an allergic reaction to it.

    wouldn't like the newer ones anymore than the "comfortable ones."

    Normally things remain in use when discussing issues because they successfully get the message across. Starving Granny to Enrich Billionaires Committee is too long and cumbersome and leaves out the gentlemen as well as the sick and the disabled. Everyone knows and automatically gets the message when using "Cat Food Commission."

    PomPom Brigade - unlimited word usage with an emphasize on discounting and dismissive words and phrases. I swear there must have been a run on the Republican's handbook of discounting, dismissive words and phrase usage.

    And yes, I realize that the PomPom Brigade falls into the same descriptive category as "Secret handshakes bunch." Thought I would point it out just in case you might have missed the reference.

    talking about when the politicians reference "The bipartisan, bicameral group." Which is probably why they have come up with that "new and improved {shakes head in disbelief}name for the Cat Food Commission 3.0....Or is it 4.0, I've lost count on how many times they have tried to cut SS and Medicare and implement the "Fix the Debt CEOs" recommendations but in such a way that each party can blame it on the other guy.

    Naturally I'v never heard it before but can't wait to use it at the gym.  I'm also going to use Anne's idea of mentioning the ACA has a mental health program if they want to get in touch with their anger.  They are all Republican weight lifters.

And since you will hear NO ONE in the MSM or politics even suggest there IS such a thing as political imagination, I hardly think it is overused -- of course, it's my fave and I use it all the time, so, um, I'm kinda biased. ;-)

    Yay!  Kabuki is getting worn ... if we wanted to stick with Japanese, what about Noh? ... kind of has a nice sound to it.

    I'd like another game reference, too.  Monopoly might cut close; but, some would argue that strategy only ever is as non-complicated as Parchesi.  

    Being an old government type, the beating-into-the-ground phrases could make one choke.  Of course, there was "on/not on my radar screen" or "scenario" or "on the same page" or the recent "at the end of the day" or the particularly dreadful "heads up" (to which some of us would put our heads down when visiting DC types imparted some gossip beginning with "heads up".)  The saddest example may well have been the overuse of that wonderful word "excellent" in the '90s ... in the public & private sector -- Every award was an Award for Excellence in Something or Other ... It was used so often, that Excellence almost became Mediocre.

    Banksy has been doing his thing in the NY the last couple weeks, very cool...but in a case of "why we can't have nice things", jealous far-lesser graffiti artists are defacing his works, and the NYPD is supposedly on the manhunt, even though no property owner has complained about his work.  It's an honor to have Banksy use your property as a canvas.

    Don't let the dueling haters get ya down Banksy, NY is lovin' it.  Stay as long as you like, and watch your back.

    Lobbyists Looking To Call Themselves Something Else: Here Are A Few Suggestions
    it appears that lobbyists are trying to "rebrand" themselves. Apparently the preferred name is "Government Relations."  Yes, it's the perfect kind of whitewash of "lobbyist."  However, the NY Times has suggested "Congress Plus" as a more appropriate name:
    We suggest "Congress Plus" as a more truthful name for an industry that employs more than 400 former members of the Senate and House, plus former Congressional staff members estimated in one study to total 5,400 people over a recent 10-year period. Not to mention untold dozens of lobbyists who smartly shift back and forth to Congressional committee posts as the electoral pendulum makes partisan swings that prove increasingly lucrative for experienced insiders.
    So, what are some other suggestions for how lobbyists should rebrand? Here are a few suggestions, and we welcome more in the comments:

    • "Corporate Congress"
    • "Corporate Congressional Liaison"
    • "Special Interest Wrangler"
    • "Government Guide"
    • "Legislative Influencer"

    Obama Gives Bush "Absolute Immunity" For Everything

    Days before Bradley - now Chelsea - Manning was sentenced to 35 years in prison for helping expose U.S. war crimes in Iraq, the Obama Department of Justice filed a petition in federal court arguing that the perpetrators of those crimes - Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld et al - enjoy "absolute immunity" against criminal charges or civil liability. The filing came in a suit brought by Sundus Shaker Saleh, an Iraqi single mother and refugee now living in Jordan, who alleges that the planning and waging of the Iraq war under false pretenses constituted a "crime of aggression" under a law used in the Nuremberg trials. With neither Congress nor Obama willing to hold Bush & Co. accountable for the Iraq catastrophe, supporters see the suit as a last-chance tactic to force the issue back into the public eye - an effort the Obama adminstration clearly opposes. More, all dispiriting, on the increasingly flawed Bush-Obama-lesser-of-two-evils thesis, and the current culture of impunity.

    Feds have been watching/terrorizing the family for a year...is it a legit threat or another case of undercover agents pushing a confused youth to extremism and a cheap collar?    

    Time will tell, or not.  

    On a lighter note...good times at the Peter Wolf and The Midnight Travelers show last night, tight as a snare sweet as a pear.  

    Tonight it's my nephew's 21st birthday surprise party...all indications are he has no clue.  Maniacs collide...his family and his circle of friends.  Good buncha kids...should be a blast.
