Libyan PM Kidnapped From Hotel

Libyan Prime Minister Ali Zeidan was kidnapped at gunpoint from the posh five star Corinthia Hotel in Tripoli just before dawn. As the photo shows, he's not wearing his glasses and appears to be in his jammies.

The Group claiming responsibility for the kidnapping is The Operations Cell of Libyan Revolutionaries, which along with other former rebel groups, have been providing security to the military. The rebel groups which kidnapped Zeiden have been providing security to the military. One claimed credit on Facebook.

According to the AP, the kidnapping is in retaliation for the U.S. kidnapping of suspected al-Qaida suspect al-Libi,last week. [More...]

The Operations Cell of Libyan Revolutionaries, which in principle reports to the defence and interior ministries, says on Facebook that it has seized the PM "on the prosecutor's orders". It says he was detained for "crimes and offences prejudicial to the state" and its security.

Apparently, the rebels didn't think Zeidan complained loudly enough about the U.S. kidnapping of al Libi.

Media reports say Zeiden has been taken to an undislcosed location.

more a matter of you reap what you sow!

At least the story line over here is an armed militia group linked to the Libyan MOJ have claimed they "arrested" (not kidnapped) him for having unlawfully giving the OK to the US to simply snatch a Libyan national for trial without having to trouble themselves with those pesky little formalities that constitute an extradition process !

And ya know, they do have a point... I mean, imagine the US giving the UK the "your welcome" to snatching a US national from over there!

In any case, their point made, it appears the militia now released him otherwise he was on course to be either summarily executed or tried for treason. Whatever, Libya continues its inexorable course to becoming a failed state thanks to our, so called by our leaders, "successful intervention"!

Hopefully this will be the first in a long line of Detroit pols that wind up in the slammer for looting that once prosperous and productive city.

CraZy, 150 gunmen, not one shot fired.  They claimed to have a warrant for his arrest because of corruption and security issues.  They held him for a couple hours and let him go.

Look like it's related to our capture of Abu Anas el Libi from Libya.

I would expect shots to be fired by his security no matter what country they are in.  He is the PM, where was his security.

It ended well, so maybe there is a lesson in here about guns...
