We've got big snow in the mountains and fierce winds in Denver. If you're in the neighborhood of either and looking for something to do tonight, and a fan of vintage clothing or the Bachelor/Bachelorette, head up to Breckenridge for the opening party for Vintage Sweet and Chic, at 215 South Main. (photo here).

The store is co-owned by former Bachelor contestant Ann Csincsak, married to former Bachelorette winner and snowboarder Jesse Csincsak, and Katie Meyer. A bunch of former Bach/B'ette contestants will be there, as well as Evel Dick from Big Brother and some current and former Survivor contestants. [More...]

I've looked at many of the store's offerings online and think Ann and Katy have quite a knack for picking good stuff. The prices are really affordable. I think this shop will be a hit.

It starts at 7 pm with a "red carpet." If you can't go in person, you can follow on Twitter, just start with Jesse and you'll find the rest of them. I hope they post pictures of what Baby Noah wears to the event.

Why am I writing about this? Because even though I didn't care for the Bachelorette the past few seasons, Jesse's still a friend I've interviewed many times for TalkLeft (see here, here and here,) and the store is so close to home.

The 99% March to Washington

On November 23rd, the Congressional Deficit Reduction Super-Committee will meet to decide on whether or not to keep Obama's extension to the Bush tax-cuts - which only benefit the richest 1% of Americans in any kind of significant way. Luckily, a group of OWS'ers are embarking on a two-week march from Liberty Plaza to the Whitehouse to let the committee know what the 99% think about these cuts. Join the march to make sure these tax cuts for the richest 1% of Americans are allowed to die!
The 20 mile a day/2 week march from Liberty Square to DC is set to leave this Wednesday, November 9 at noon. On Wednesday we'll be leaving Liberty Square and marching to the New York Waterway/Hudson River Ferry and onward to Elizabeth, NJ. This is our ﬁrst stop. Everyone is welcome to join this two week march. If you'd like to participate, but can't commit for two weeks you're welcome to join us for the day or help send us off!

new one--but it's touch screen Frustrating. And apparently incapable of erasing e-mails from phone as well as laptop. Only took 2 days and about 6 hrs. to accomplish this.

return to Blackberry's fold. Of course, I did't think I could bear to get a different phone from the very first cell phone I bought, Motorola flip, And I didn't stop using wordperfect 5.1 until the tech people took it off my work computer.

because I'm (thinking about) sinning (and I'm not even Catholic!). But I have become very, very interested in Mr. Zorba's iPhone, newly acquired from his work (they gave it to him- he didn't request it). He's even more of a Luddite than I am, but he's gotten really enthusiastic about its capabilities- this little device can do all kinds of interesting things. I may have to give up my stupid phone for a smart phone. The only thing I don't like is that the screen's too d@mned small for my eyeballs' comfort (his eyesight is much better than mine). The siren call of a smart phone may be seducing me........ ;-)

Portland police to clear Occupy Portland (none / 0) (#10)

out of their camp at 12:01 AM (PST), just a little less than two hours from now. People have been gathering at the Occupy park all afternoon and evening. Local clergy have formed a group that will serve at witnesses to whatever transpires.

The local TV stations have been breathlessly announcing that they will be bringing their viewers LIVE coverage of the police department's attempt to evict the Occupiers. Coverage starts at 11:00PM (PST), about an hour before the official eviction time. I guess the TV stations want to do a little pre-riot commentary.

I won't be able to get downtown to the Occupy camp. So, I'll be following the Occupy Portland Live Feed.

I don't know how this will play out. PPB has called in reinforcements from police departments in surrounding communities. That alone could mean trouble because the PPB has been feeding the media stories, which appear to be false, claiming the Occupiers are arming themselves with rocks and concrete and other weapons that will be used to fight the police.

I hope no one gets hurt, but I have a bad feeling about this. Please let me be wrong.

Well, the Occupiers were supposed to be gone at midnight. It is now 6:30 AM (PST). Both the police and the Occupiers have been downtown at Chapman Square (park that was occupied) all night. Things are peaceful.

There has been one injury. Somebody in the crown threw something, reporters are calling it a projectile, and it hit a police officer in the leg. The officer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, and the person who threw it was arrested.

The Occupy site was filled with thousands of people yesterday, last night and still this morning. I've been watching things on local TV all night. It has been festive at times and tense at times. And, with the exception of the projectile thrower, peaceful on the part of police and Occupiers and everybody else who was down there.

I don't know what will happen today. The Portland Business Alliance (our local version of the Chamber of Commerce) really wants the Occupiers out. They expected that the police would evict them this morning, forcefully if necessary. And that may happen later today.

Occupy Portland and the police and the mayor have worked very hard over these last several weeks to keep things peaceful and nonviolent. There have only been a couple of incidents of protester-police trouble in all that time.

And interesting side note: our chief of police is expected to announce his candidacy for mayor this coming week. His main support is the business community. The business community really wants Occupy out of Portland. So, I'm wondering how this will all play out.

So far, so peaceful, though. I'm glad for that.
