Silly Season

Via AllahPundit, Sheila Jackson Lee makes a ridiculous statement on the GOP proposal to repeal the health bill:

The Fifth Amendment speaks specifically to denying someone their life and liberty without due process [. . .] That is what H.R. 2 does and I rise in opposition to it. And I rise in opposition because it is important that we preserve lives and we recognize that 40 million-plus are uninsured. [. . .] Can you tell me what’s more unconstitutional than taking away from the people of America their Fifth Amendment rights, their Fourteenth Amendment rights, and the right to equal protection under the law?

I can think of many things that are "more unconstitutional" than repeal of the health bill because repeal of the health bill would not be unconstitutional. Congressional debate is always ridiculous.

Speaking for me only

right to care, instead of the right to insurance, we might actually have seen reform that expanded access to and affordability of care.

Insurance has been and will continue to be less a bridge to care as it will be a wall that requires significant financial contributions to get beyond, the longer we maintain the fiction that the crisis in health care is the result of lack of insurance.

    And in fact (5.00 / 1) (#6)

the "affordable care act" will increase the length of the bridge to care, because people who couldn't and can't afford health INSURANCE will have to pay a tax.  That tax expense will eat into money they once spent on medical CARE and so they'll actually forgo office visits to pay it.  I know a couple of people for whom this is the sad reality.  I'm sure there are many more.

Reminds me of Jon Stewart's piece the other night on the Dem's battle to replace the language of the bill to 'job destroying' rather than 'job killing'. Real helpful there too.

I read an absurd post about how the House of Saudi has given gifts to the Obama family and how there will be an inevitable rise in the price of crude oil in order to repay the House of Saudi for their 'generosity'.

I'll have more at the next open thread.

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
