    for the makeup or a makeup artist to put it on her? $250 is not that much for a makeup artist, the networks pay that to local makeup artists to get someone ready for a tv news/talk show appearance. (In New York and DC they have them on staff, but for when they have guests on by satellite from other cities, they charge for each guest they put makeup on. (I'm sure makeup artists in the major cities charge much more than $250.)

    So if she has public appearances every day related to her business, it is a business expense, and it's not unreasonable given she's in the public eye. (Actually, I'm assuming she's in the public eye, I don't know who either of them are since I don't follow sports.)

    for jobs says her's was darn cheap. I wonder if it was a "day rate" based on the person coming to her in the AM and fixing her for the day and she did touch ups. And that would still be a decent/less expensive rate than what she could have been paying.

    TL: The cost of the nice clothes you may buy for appearing in court (or the makeup you apply for court appearances, if you do) is not a tax-deductible business expense, even if you never wear, and wouldn't wear, those clothes for anything else you do.  The IRS and the Tax Court reason that you could wear those clothes for other, non- business purposes, so they don't count as a deductible business expense, much less as a non-taxable benefit to the recipient (if the employer, such as the Dodgers, or your law firm, as a legal existence separate from the employee; the analysis is different, but not better for you, if you are self-employed).  In other words, when the Dodgers have baseball uniforms custom made for each of their players, that's a deductible business expenses, and the value of the uniform is not income to the player.  Makeup on the team's President for pubic appearances?  I'm pretty sure not.  That rich people (and corporations) violate these rules all the time, as they do, doesn't make it legal, imho.

    Police found 18-year-old Joel de la Rosa dead early Thursday morning in the city jail in Edinburg, near the Texas-Mexico border. He had been taken into custody about three hours earlier on charges of drug possession and evading arrest.

    Yeah, I guess you want to amend the constitution now, so that hanging for being Mexican is OK without any silly due process.  

    Due process must be one of those archaic things that has long since fulfilled its intended task.

    she was his predecessor. When they reported (locally) on this last night, they mentioned his success after his predecessor, but I didn't catch that it was her. I hope this brings a bit of spotlight to her record there. And in other news, she has finally agreed to debate Boxer. That should be festive, lol!~ . . . .  Can't wait to see Whitman "take on" Brown either ;) Whitman hasn't even convinced my Rep Mom yet and she's spent how much money?! I think Mom goes for Brown in the long run . . . . I need to start schooling her on CF . . .

    Good review from NYT.... spoilers....  I think that the film could win best actress, or even best director.  Pretty incredible film, IMO.

    Well worth seeing if it comes to your town.

    Mary and Max

    Mary and Max is a 2009 stopmotion claymation feature film directed and written by Adam Elliot. The voice cast included Toni Collette, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Eric Bana. The film premiered on the opening night of the 2009 Sundance Film Festival

    its one of the funniest saddest best movies I have seen in a long time.

    I saw one review that said something like "the films PG rating is arguable to generous".

    The investigation found "numerous instances" in which the unidentified worker received compensation "where there was not a legitimate business purpose," according to HP General Counsel Mike Holston. In addition, he said the company found Hurd submitted false expense reports that concealed his personal relationship with the woman.

    What, all the money he was making at HP wasn't enough that he had to submit false expense reports and false compensation?  What is it with these people?
