NY Daily News: Cuomo to Announce Run For Gov In March

Too soon?

Andrew Cuomo is ready to run for governor. [. . .] [A] source close to Cuomo told The News, "He will make an announcement at the end of March. And what he will say is that he intends to run for governor. ... He thinks there are a lot of problems in the state and he thinks he can help solve them."

If I were Cuomo, I would announce on the last possible day for filing. There is not a person in the state who does not know Cuomo is running. But there is no need to unnecessarily antagonize any supporters Governor Paterson may have left. The article claims Cuomo is ready to run against Paterson, but I'm sure he would prefer NOT to run against him unless he has to. The longer Cuomo waits, the more likely, Paterson will step aside. No doubt Cuomo would crush Paterson, but no need to make enemies when you do not have to.

Andrew Cuomo needs as much time as he can get to explain exactly what he would do differently from Paterson and to come up with his own proposed alternative budget.  Suing telemarketers doesn't qualify as executive experience.

    Cuomo is a big favorite (none / 0) (#4)

He really does not need to explain much of anything.

New York voters need an explanation and platform for the budget.  I'm sure that Andrew Cuomo will crush Paterson and needs run no real campaign, just as Hillary crushed Obama and Martha Coakley crushed Scott Brown.

Cuomo is the Not Paterson right now.

Who is the Republican who can take that mantle?

Here's a bet for you - Cuomo wins in November in a de facto walkover.

With any luck, he'll be Spitzer, revised edition (none / 0) (#7)

Spitzer was going nowhere fast in battles with the dysfunctional legislature.  And with the Democrats controlling all of Albany Cuomo will be saddled with the mess they will cause in trying and failing to fix the budget.  Paterson is the only adult in state government right now.
The primary may be closer than you think when Cuomo actually has to answer the debate question "What would you do differently than Paterson did"?  Right now he's coasting on his lawsuits against telemarketers.

    I see Cuomo as a Democratic reboot (none / 0) (#9)

He'll take a focus off of the mistakes of the first four years and actually deliver on what Sptizer attempted.
