GOP Needs New Chant (Suggestions Welcome)

Sarah Palin's winks and delegates' chants of "drill baby drill" were about all the McCain campaign could muster to excite voters. Today the Republican vision of oil rigs drilling offshore, in the Alaskan wilderness, in national parks, and maybe even in your backyard seems a bit myopic.

The number of rigs actively exploring for oil and natural gas in the United States fell by 10 this week to 945, down nearly half from a year ago. ... A year ago, the rig count stood at 1,839. The U.S. count is down 53 percent since the end of August as weak energy demand has hampered oilfield activity.

It may be time for the GOP's overpriced go-to-guy, Joe the Plumber, to come up with a catchy phrase to replace "drill, baby, drill." What will it be? "God, baby, God"?

it is "I got plenty of nothing" and it is the song title as well as a line in the song.

Works better for Republican chant if it is "We got plenty of nothing." What can I say. Faulty memory or creative license?

up again. It would be myopic to think they won't. And the fact that companies have cut back on looking for more oil is only going to make the rise quicker and higher.

My vote for Republican chant would be "Well, I guess that theory didn't pan out".

    Indeed (5.00 / 3) (#15)
by gyrfalcon on Fri May 01, 2009 at 03:15:20 PM EST
The price of oil is now so low, it's not worth it for oil companies to continue exploratin and new drilling.  They have nothing to lose.  When the demand starts to rise again, especially when China's economy recovers, the price is going to shoot up, and the shortage as a result of the halt in drilling/exploring will only make the price shoot up higher still.  Which will then make it worth the companies' while financially to look for more.

    Your Capitalist System at Work.

And BTW, the "Drill baby drill" chant was initiated and sustained by John McCain, not Sarah Palin.

But never mind.  She's a noisy, brassy, unsuppressable woman with political views we don't agree with, so let's just blame her for everything we don't like.

the word "delegates'" to make more clear that Palin excited conservatives with her winking while convention delegates excited conservatives with their chanting.  The original sentence was not intended to blame Palin for the chanting.  There are plenty of other reasons to criticize Palin, whether or not she is noisy, brassy, or unsuppressible.

"Hell, No: No We Won't, No We Don't and No We Can't"

The GOP: It's Not A Party, It's More Like a Wake."
