The Better Jobs Plan

Via Krugman, CAP explains in basic terms why the House stimulus bill is superior to the Senate stimulus bill:

The Senate compromise recovery and reinvestment legislation provides for 12 to 15 percent fewer jobs created or saved than the House-passed Recovery and Reinvestment Act despite costing slightly more. The House-passed legislation creates or saves between 430,000 and 538,000 more jobs than the Senate compromise.

The Senate bill costs more and does less. It is indefensible. The House bill needs to prevail in the coming House-Senate conference. See also the NYTimes editorial on the subject.

Why isn't this on the lips of every single Democrat, including the President?

Is it really too hard to get them all to say: "The Senate version cuts a half a million jobs and cost $10 billion more.  That doesn't even make sense!"

And what universe is trimming the fat and milking the cow result in a bill that's $10 billion more?

If Act 3 in this debate (after the conference committee) isn't some Progressive Democratic Senators refusing to vote for the Senate version I'm registering Independent again.  These bastards not only have no spine, they have no brain!

Three Republican Senators hijack the bill cut Head Start in half, eliminate $40 billion to states (when practically every Governor and Mayor, Democratic and Republican is begging for the money), and the none other than the Chamber of Commerce comes out on our side and still we're having problems crossing the goal line.

    It's amateur hour up there.

I have been trying to find the list of multipliers I had seen. Finally found through the CAP link that is was the Zandi multipliers I had seen. Here is a sample from most to least effective:

    Increase food stamps            $1.73
    Extend unemployment benefits     1.64
    Infrastructure spending          1.59
    Aid to states                    1.36
Across the board tax cut         1.03

    Fix ATM                           .48
    Permanent cap gains/dividend cut  .37
    Cut corp. tax rate                .30
Extend Bush income tx cut         .29

This should be sent to every news organization in the country and to all Democratics in Congress.

that will actually save us or have any effect on the quality of what our lives will be like in this America we share together at this point is jobs, and that would be middle class jobs.....end of discussion.  The bill with the most jobs in it (not make believe extrapolated tax cut jobs either) is the best bill if we are talking economic stimulation, and there is no excuse for anything less than getting THAT BILL!
