It's A Wonderful Life

I'm going to an early screening of "It's A Wonderful Life" at one of those old movie theaters that has been around for 80 years and actually had the first run of the movie. So with that excuse, I now present you one of my favorite scenes in film history:

You remember when there used to a be a political party that used to think and talk like that?

The Heisman award is tonight. Toby Gerhart should win. Colt McCoy will.

This is an Open Thread.

    what a film.

"Why do you want to help a bunch of garlic eaters for anyway George?"

"Hey look, mister - we serve hard drinks in here for men who want to get drunk fast, and we don't need any characters around to give the joint "atmosphere". Is that clear, or do I have to slip you my left for a convincer?"

"What is it you want, Mary? What do you want? You want the moon? Just say the word and I'll throw a lasso around it and pull it down. Hey. That's a pretty good idea. I'll give you the moon, Mary."

    The best...

How cool to see it in an old theater too (5.00 / 1) (#5)

I'd love that. I've never seen it on a big screen.

I sob just thinking of that scene with young George and Mr. Gower the druggist. amazing.

Michael Ingram.  Colt McCoy won't finish in the top 3.

...and I love watching him run over people, but my vote would go to that kid at Nebraska, Ndamukong Suh.  He's the most outstanding player I've seen this year.  Too bad he doesn't play QB or running back and will never get the consideration he deserves.

Interesting reading at ESPN today--a Stoops brother on the move...

Florida State has hired Arizona defensive coordinator Mark Stoops as its next defensive coordinator, according to a source close to the hiring process.

...Alverez says the Big Ten is going to push hard to add a 12th team...

A 12th team would allow the Big Ten to split into divisions and hold a conference championship game.
    .

It would be tough to divide the conference given the various and sundry trophies played for and the natural rivalries.  I'd do it as follows:

    West:
    Iowa
    Minnesota
    Wisconsin
    Illinois
    NW
    ?

    East:
    OSU
    Michigan
    MSU
    State Penn
    Indiana
    Purdue

    Appalachian State. (none / 0) (#7)

I'd be tempted to pick C.J Spiller over any of them,
    with the exception of Suh.

Even with no hardware at the ESPN College Football Awards Show, he is still the talk of the town in Florida this week. Here is the way an Orlando Sentinel writer summed it up:

...this is why Tebow is adored by so many people and placed on such a high pedestal. His date to the awards show was Kelly Faughnan, 20, whom he met the day before. Faughnan had been diagnosed with a brain tumor just before Thanksgiving last year. Before surgery last year, her wish was to go to Disney World during the awards show to get a glimpse of Tebow. She got much more than she expected. That's why despite the lack of bling this week _ Tebow still rocks.

What ever happened to this country?
People have been programmed not to identify with what James Stewart is saying. I think what he was expressing, and the feeling with which he expresses it, are really American.

What ever happened to make people turn away from this?

but it was the movie impossible dreamy words of Bailey that led to the housing crisis.

"You said they have to wait and save their money before they enven thought about having a decent home.  Wait, wait for what?"

Well Mr. Bailey, wait until they can actualy afford the loan we're giving them.

Sometimes the mean old guy is right.

    Merry Christmas!
