Who Got an iPhone Today?

I stopped in at the Apple store around 12:45 pm today. There were over 100 people in line. Those just getting in the store had been in line since 8:30 am. They weren't giving out numbers (so I could get a number, go to the jail and return afterwards) so I left. They did say they had plenty and would not run out.

On my way back from the jail around 3:30 pm, I stopped at the AT&T store. There was no line. They also had no more iPhones. They were expecting 70 more tomorrow. 70? That's a joke. [More...]

I ended up ordering and paying for a 16 GB iPhone at AT&T and they said it will be here in 7 days. We'll see. I won't be surprised to be told it's backordered. If that happens, I'll demand a refund and go buy it from the Apple store which I doubt will still have lines.

So, did any of you get one today? Is it all it's cracked up to be? The AT&T folks told me it doesn't have a video player in it. The only videos you can watch are those you download from iTunes and those on You Tube.

I hated that you didn't get one today. I would have liked to have heard you critique it. I doubt it would be something for me though. I'm not into those kinds of things. All I use my cell phone for is calling. I used to have the internet access etc. but found it was more trouble than it was worth and just went back to basic service.

before I get one. She qualifys for an upgrade to her existing phone. They are truly amazing from what I saw on the Apple web page. Take the Guided Tour. It takes almost 30 minutes to see everything it can do. There is no competitor that yet come close to the new phone. AT&T told me since I have a family plan that if you wanted all the services that the phone is capable of they have a $30 per month addition to your plan so you get the full capacity of the i phone. I don't know if this price is nation wide or it goes by zip code. The internet on the phone looks just like the one on you PC. You really need to watch the Guided Tour on the Apple page. Really amazing

a co-worker who had the day off went to the Apple store in Arlington this morning. She was late, and got in line around 8:30. It was about 4:00 PM when she finally walked out with her new iPhone. They set it up for her (there were some connectivity issues that were blamed on AT&T's servers for causing delays. Anyway, she called from the mall (they swapped her number over) and she seemed happy, though tired.

but I have a blackberry curve and I love it. (I'd marry it if I could) I don't know if I could give up the tactile keyboard and blackberry messenger but I do want 3G, a better web browser and youtube.

I tried out the iPhone but I text message a lot and couldn't get used to the touch screen. Maybe I have fat fingers?

(no phone, but everything else), and I love it (got it in January). I haven't used the Wi-Fi too often, since my job usually entails sitting in the basement of law firms where there is no signal, but let me tell you what: since I do document review (which entails me sitting at a computer and going through documents seeing if they are responsive to things like DoJ subpoenas), and since they took our internet away, my iTouch has been my lifesaver. I've downloaded TV shows from iTunes and from my own DVD's and have been able to watch TV while I click away (I've watched all three seasons of "The Closer", so I am now caught up to watch the season premier on Monday).

what with all the network problems they were having today with everyone activating at once.

I hope you love it as much as I love mine. I'm not going to upgrade to the new one since I've only had this one a year, but I will envy you your higher speed. It will be great for you to do your web surfing and email in free moments when you are on the run, between court appearances, etc. I predict that in a few months you will wonder how you got along without it!

You will get used to the keypad. The best tip on that is to envision hitting the key with the pad of your fingertip, not the very tip, and you will get used to hitting the keys right.

David Pogue's book is a good guide too.

There is a lot of lore about that the 'i' stands for something significant, but Levy says it appears to be more likely that "Jobs had had enough of the naming process and the hour was getting late".

so that I can just walk in and get one. I can handle not having one for a week or two until then. But I'm getting one pretty soon. I'm happy that I'll be able to get an iPhone at a reasonable price, and that they're now 3G which makes a big difference where I travel.

Now I just have to decide if I'm going to stick with the two year contract or if I'm going to cancel after 30 days and pay the 175 penalty and then go pay as you go after that. I'll probably just stick with the contract.

Whoopie Goldberg may have gotten an iPhone today. I saw her leaving the Soho NYC apple store today with a bag. Others were waiting in a line only half way down the block donning large black Apple umbrellas. It was a sight, I guess the umbrellas were to protect against the sun.... and help advertise.
