A Drug War Outrage

I noticed a lot of drug warriors on tv yesterday talking about a bust in San Diego. I'm not sure why that's such big news. What should be news is this drug war outrage in Arkansas.

With you on the pot legalization (5.00 / 1) (#9)

I think cocaine should be decriminalized to the extent that repeat offenders get treatment.  But as for pot, absolutely.  You could tax the hell out of it and it would still be cheaper for youngsters (or oldsters) to buy.

I have three cops in my family.  I can tell you that arkansas is a hotbed of this crap.  it happens all the time.
lucky for this guy he got a little media help although that seems over with the gag order.  I could tell you stories I have heard from both friends and family cops that would make you sick.
I dont know if this is typical for the rest of the country.  I suspect to some degree it is.  but I can tell you its not that unusual for arkansas.
all you need is a neighbor who doesnt like you for this to possibly happen to you.

Got a lot of family in Arkansas, too, though I haven't been up in a while.  My sense is that if you don't live in fayetteville (and even then, if you aren't well-heeled) you have to put up with quite a bit of outrageousness.

Am not trying to call your family's service into question.  I'm way too chicken to be a police officer.  I prefer to grill them during deposition :-)

    he was on the ballot.

He's out there talking about how we need to end the war on drugs, unlike Hillary and Barack, a cause really worth fighting for.

...also had a story a couple of months ago highlighting how an entire family was railroaded by the informant industry and a federal prosecutor indifferent to exculpatory evidence.  Sadly, not uncommon.

I have this older half brother who is makes Clarence Thomas look like Thurgood Marshall (he is a black hating, homophobic, republican black man).  So frustrating.  Anyways, I got him to agree to read a book on the war on drugs, and how this whole thing is a sham.  I was hoping I could get a list of the best reasoned books on this subject. Just a few recommendations.

    Thanks Sam

Occur about 300 time/day all over the country, on average, according to Thom Hartmann.

The militarization of the constabulary is one of the greatest, unacknowledged threats to USer liberties.

In re: the San Diego busts. What's hilarious is that one of the ring-leaders was majopring in Criminal Justice, and another one was a grad student in Homeland Security. Both apparently asked if this bus was gonna effect their chances in law enforcement.
Which, given the record of the Preznit and most of his gang of thugs and gunsels. is a pretty good question...

don't get the big deal about the college in San Diego...anybody who knows anything knows college campuses are a hotbed of every illegal drug you can imagine.  Yawn.

The Arkansas story sadly doesn't suprise me either...basically legalized violent crime on the part of police para-military organizations.  Double yawn.

This is the New World Order folks....

and dangerous for both the LE and the suspect.

If I were an LE officer I think I would want nothing to do with a no knock warrant.
