Hillary Wins Ohio

CNN projects Ohio for Hillary!

Hillary's on her way to speak to supporters, the networks will cover it.

Update: Hillary is jubilant. Live blogging her victory speech here and looks fabulous in pink. The song playing: Bruce Springsteen's "The Rising." She's smiling from ear to ear. "As Ohio goes, so does the nation."

"This nations coming back and so is this campaign."

"No one has won the White House in recent memory without winning the Ohio primary."

She lists all the states she has won. "Americans don't deserve more speeches, they deserve solutions and they deserve them now."

"We're ready for health care for every American." She does the 3 am call... "there's no time for speeches or on the job training." She looks forward to debating John McCain.

The crowd chants "Yes, We Will." She thanks Ohio. She thanks Gov. Strickland and Stephanie Tubbs. Then she praises Obama.

She reads an email from a poor supporter with 2 daughters. "Keep on watching, we're going to make history." "We will protect our country and our Constitution."

"We will turn hope into reality." Great speech, great delivery. I think she knows she's going to win the popular vote in Texas.

End of speech. [More...]

(BTD) CNN's current breakout of the delegates in Ohio has Hillary up 25-12.

(BTD) NBC, Tweety and Punchline going nuts, spittling and enraged. Hilarious!! Still demanding Hillary drop out. Never seen anything like it. No, NBC is not biased. Not at all. Ha!

She needs to cut into Obama's delegate lead tonight to have a complete victory.

Looks like a big popular vote lead in Ohio (although Kos writes that Obama is leading in delegates -- I can't see that happening if the spread is really 15%).  And looks like she may take the popular vote in Texas, although she still needs to deal with the caucuses.

She really, really wants to eat into Obama's delegate lead.

by LarryInNYC on Tue Mar 04, 2008 at 10:16:05 PM EST
It's too late for a story.

If she wants the nomination she needs to start cutting into Obama's delegate and popular vote leads.  She has to close that gap.  Maybe she'll wind up behind, but less far than at present.  But a series of victories in which she falls further behind is not going to help her attract the superdelegate support she would need at the convention.

I think the story is the entire thing, no matter how many time the delegate count is brought up by Obama supporters. Now, I think Obama still has the better story and chance, but not because of the delegate numbers. Rather because he started as an unknown and has outrun and outshined (so far) the established candidate.

Let's see if it stays that way.

Also, may I suggest that on a night that is a win for Hillary supporters you can be a little more gracious. No harm.

I'm surprised some seem to think it won't.  It's usually working somewhere in a campaign - on fliers, on ads, in the tone, etc.  Obama's been passive aggressive.  Clinton went with a traditional negative ad.  What are the important (moral?) differences between these two tactics?

Maybe we have to give them a couple of days to grieve, work through the various stages, ya know?

When all is said and done, once again Hillary comes through with grace and honor - played fair, against all odds, with the media naysayers chained to her ankles.

Tom Brokaw giving Hillary her props for winning Ohio by a significant margin, in a bellweather state.  Wow. Objective analysis.

KO now pays lip service to Hillary's double digit victory in Ohio.  But she's committed to continuing to Pennsylvania.  Russert: she can't back out now.  What are they going to do about Florida and Michigan?  They need some determination from those states to settle the nomination. Duh, Timmeh.  I've been saying that all along. You can't base your magic number for the nomination based on those delegates being in, and not have a way for those delegates to be seated.

Though I think the "Yes she will" thing is a pretty lame ripoff of the "Yes we can" chant.

But it was a strong speech, one of her better one's.

lame when Obama stole it too. (none / 0) (#153)
