Um, What Meltdown Coverage?

Kevin Drum and Ezra Klein are bemoaning the pack coverage of Hillary's meltdown. Well, um, I expected it, but I must admit it never materialized. Not sure what Kevin and Ezra are talking about frankly.

I thought the coverage was pretty fair. What did I miss?

Well there was this from wonkette, Ana Cox, but not in anything that was in print or mattered.

Hillary Clinton's "feelings" comment.  Lots of postings of You Tube video, but the only derogatory comment was "she has feelings?"

Here's a fun paragraph from The Canadian Republican:

Mark my words: this man is a very serious threat to the Republican party. As Hillary's free fall continues, it is becoming increasingly obvious (as noted over at Small Dead Animals) that the North American media has anointed the Obamessiah as the Chosen One to lead the American people from the darkness of reason and small government with his glorious and nebulous message of change.

    Gibson's Faculty Pay Gaffe (none / 0) (#2)

After Charlie Gibson's debate gaffe regarding faculty pay, are you curious about what faculty really earn?

Most teaching is done by part-time faculty and graduate students for less than $20,000 per year.

Even tenured college professors in the humanities often earn less than bartenders. See the "Faculty on Food Stamps" video at

Clearly America doesn't exist outside of san francisco, LA (well only the nice parts), Washington(excluding the certain parts) and New York (excluding certain parts).  So middle income earners  you know thats about 200,000.  I Mr Gibson make like 400,000 and I'm clearly just like a  regular American.  I make regular decisions all the time just last night i had to choose between leaving a 40 dollar tip for my 200.00 meal or 45.00, it was very stressful.  So you know as a regular guy i understand what it is like for you to choose between blood pressure meds and arthritis meds.

teacher was getting mad at me for not realizing she deserved it, not really appealing.  But i guess you Hillies think she needs to take an authoritarian tone with all us Obama wiper snapers.

Obama tells me, you and i can do this.

Hillary's says you can't do anything, i have done something, I'm going to do that something and you are going to be happy with it, because I'm a woman and thats all the change you really need.

They described it as angry, i was impressed that they didn't go into meltdown, or shrill like Malkin. But angry is appropriate, they described it as aimed at voters that too is accurate.  She essentially got angry at voters for not realizing she deserved it.

Her supporters probably felt like she summed up their feeling about non Hillies, but as a non Hillie, angrily wondering why i don't get it ain't gonna work.

BTD addressing you in particular, you may not be a Hillie, but you buy they argument that her experience, gives her some degree of entitlement.

right, you are an idiot.  She wasn't angry at voters, she was responding to an attack from Edwards on the part of Obama.

Oh and about being a 'wiper snapper'?  Freudian slip there?

I saw the video she is referring to, and I too ask "What meltdown?"

I also love the comments she has been getting. The "What's wrong with being angry at how things are right now?" theme repeats itself over and over.

about the state of things, she was angry about the state of her campaign.  That entire rant was about her and nothing else. Newsflash being president isn't about Hillary Clinton, it's about the country.

JE is angry people are poor, and that hasn't worked, you guys think being angry you are loosing will have some great appeal?  Call me an idiot(and i know you will) but I don't get it.

    You're usually more insightful.

It wasn't a meltdown....it was righteous indignation.  And righteously held and forcefully expressed.

And check out what Jake Tapper wrote at ABC.

It is irrelevant as to whether it was written about. As Ezra makes clear, the press has now made this part of their back story on her.  And their pack journalism in this case is based on a misogynistic analysis of her forcefulness. Misogyny is far more socially acceptable than racism.  And it is more often expressed in what is said about women and how men respond to women.  Racism, at least in the left side of the spectrum, is thoroughly repressed,  so Obama, in the primary, has yet to suffer from that kind of dismissal.

This has been enormously helpful to him.
