Meet Wynona Spears

Wynona is an immigrant from Belize, once undocumented, whose son served twice in Iraq. Wynona reminds us that many, many people serving in Iraq are native US citizens who are children of undocumented residents, or are themselves undocumented and are serving and dying in order to gain expedited citizenship.

Wynona is currently riding on the dream train. You can get on board too (virtually speaking).

Watch her on YouTube.

Dreams Across America is a national train tour and online campaign to give a human face back to immigrants, documented and undocumented, who have been demonized and vilified by the likes of Lou Dobbs and the Minutemen particularly in the last two years.

Congress is about to reconsider immigration reform for the second time in as many weeks. The bill is not perfect, but it's a start. It may not go anywhere. It may go in a bad direction. People have differing views on how immigration reform should be handled, and that's fine.

But it's time to stop using words such as murderers, home invaders, illegals, and lepers in the context of people coming to this country in search of a better life.

Join the movement. We're late to the game--extremists have been using anti-foreign, racist language like this since the days of the Know-nothings, but we had a lull there for a few years. Now it's surged, and it's up to us to quash it.

Get on the train!
