It must be nice to be able to waste all that money (none / 0) (#1)

Taxpayer's money, that is. I'm sure each one of us could have done with some of what was taken from us under threat of imprisonment (look at the threat on the bottom of the 1040 form) and which the prosecution pissed away in what could only have been an exercise in sheer vindictiveness.

If anything illustrates the mindset supportive of cannabis prohibition, this is it. It's nothing more than the "revenge of the (vicious) nerds', the one the stoners laughed at on campus long ago. They never got over it, and stewed in their ostracism, planning for the day when they could stick it to those who put them down for being such marginal personalities. People like those described here..

Federal & State laws.  But Ed was growing pot for the Medical marijuana clubs in the Bay Area.  he had been given some kind of certification from the City of Oakland to do so, and yet the defense isn't allowed to mention this at the trial.

I'd be more comfortable with the defense being able to bring it up and also say that Federal law doesn't recognize it.  It'd be more honest.  Otherwise the citizens on the jury should just be able to disregard the judges instructions and vote him innocent anyhow.

"They hate us for our freedoms" (none / 0) (#6)

No wonder so many people around the globe hate us.
They resent the most well-known aspect of our society:  our devotion to the concepts of liberty and freedom...as defined by the special interests that profit from restricting them.
